If you need to take a break from crime (blood murders) what other genre do you head towards? I personally like a good ole historical fiction.

Historical fiction especially fiction based on facts or real historical figures.

That’s a great question, Wendy, and my answer really depends on the mood I’m in:

Psychological thrillers, horror, and action are all good standby genres though sometimes I will head to the more quirky award winners, like The Martian.

Never: sci-fi, romance, fantasy or heavy literature (had enough of that doing A Level English at school!).

I quite like a family saga like Gilly Cooper, though I prefer Jan Ruth as I can relate more to her characters.

I love a good trial story although it usually involves a crime to begin with, or, dare I say it, a bit of chick lit…

Even though crime is my favourite genre I still read some non, fiction, horror and women’s fiction. I find it’s good to mix it up a little.

Psychological thrillers, legal thrillers. The last books I read totally unrelated to crime were, A Man Called Ove followed by Shtum. Both brilliant books

Historical or non fiction usually. But I’ve recently read a few romances and romantic suspense for a break.
