@Taleesha The nice part is once you download the books onto the app if you don’t have WiFi access you can still read!! I love it especially when I fly on short flights I’m not about to pay how much for WiFi access so I just pull out my iPad & read the whole time!!
@Taleesha Yes after your buy them or rent them go into the app & click on each book & it’ll download it onto the app & to make sure they downloaded click on the downloaded tab at the top. Have fun & I hope you enjoy it as much as I do!!
Wrong. One book a month unless you pay quite a bit more for this. And 90% of the books are crap. Check your Amazon charges. I discovered that they had been charging me extra for over a year, above the Prime charge.
& you’re confusing the extra fee service which is kindle unlimited. With a prime membership you can read from their prime reading selection and you get dibs on first reads which are new books yet to be released and you get to pick one per month for free
@Sue if you click on the link I think you’ll see the option of 5 or 6 books. First reads lets you pick one for free to own. Just make your selection and add the kindle version to your cart. It should show up as $0.00 in your cart. Then you just purchase it. I think the selections you do not choose are still available at a discounted choice. Let me know if you have any problems. (Every first of the month a new group of First Reads is available to prime members for that month.)
FYI- Last Prime Day Kindle Unlimited was a $1 per month for 3 months. I simply placed the date in my calendar when the charges would increase to the regular rate and cancelled my subscription.
If he adds you to his household you should have access. I have prime and I added my husband to it and he can download things. He can also order me gifts from his own account (to keep them secret) and he gets the 2 day shipping. But only my account gets charged for Prime. Even if you don’t want your own account, he should be able to send any prime book to any kindle (or kindle app) registered to the account. I do that for my son.
@Alison I was in the same predicament. He added me as his family and now I can access Amazon First Reads, Prime Video and Prime books!! (Make sure you get your free book every month from First Reads!!)
Quoted from the article above: “Second—and this is the BIG difference between the two—is what titles are available on each service. Prime Reading gives you access to a little over 1,000 titles that rotate in and out periodically. Kindle Unlimited gives you access to over 1,000,000 titles.”
I am new to Amazon’s ebooks and don’t have a prime membership but I did sign up for Kindle unlimited witch I am pleased with so far! I found this helpful.
How do you access this?
You need a E reader like the Amazon kindle. It’s great
I have prime. But no idea where to find the free books. All I see is kindle unlimited??
Really? With any device? Through which app? Thanks in advance.
You can download the kindle app and use it on your phone or ipad if you don’t have a kindle. (I think you can view it on a computer, too.)
I’ve got the Kindle app on my iPad & on my iPhone & it’s also available on Android tablets & phones too!!
@Jill Awesome! I have an iPad so this is perfect. Can’t wait to try it out ?
@Taleesha The nice part is once you download the books onto the app if you don’t have WiFi access you can still read!! I love it especially when I fly on short flights I’m not about to pay how much for WiFi access so I just pull out my iPad & read the whole time!!
@Jill What!? That’s amazing, lol. Ok, now I’m about to download some books. ??
@Taleesha Yes after your buy them or rent them go into the app & click on each book & it’ll download it onto the app & to make sure they downloaded click on the downloaded tab at the top. Have fun & I hope you enjoy it as much as I do!!
I will check mine and get back to you…
following
If you search ‘prime reading’ on your amazon app you can get a full list of what you can borrow with your prime membership ?
I see it now, but I also need the kindle app to read the book, right?
Yeah you need to download the kindle app ?
@Chelsea Awesome! Thanks for your help!
no problem! ?
Also following
Following
I think that is with Kindle Unlimited.
Nope, prime reading is a thing ?
@Chelsea suggest you double check that.
Double check what? ? I borrow from it all the time
@Susanna I’ve been borrowing from them since they started it & I’m not getting charged extra like you claim they do lol!!
@Susanna when you order on amazon prime it auto downloads into your kindle.
@Chelsea 10 ebooks at a time??
@Maureen well not 10 but I’ve certainly had multiple on the go at once and never been charged extra!
@Chelsea same here
It’s amazon prime & no you don’t get charged extra. I choose ten to last me the month
@Stacey are they ebooks?
@Maureen I get mine on my kindle & once you’ve read them you return like you would a library book
How does it work
Wrong. One book a month unless you pay quite a bit more for this. And 90% of the books are crap. Check your Amazon charges. I discovered that they had been charging me extra for over a year, above the Prime charge.
You are confusing First reads with Amazon Prime.
& you’re confusing the extra fee service which is kindle unlimited. With a prime membership you can read from their prime reading selection and you get dibs on first reads which are new books yet to be released and you get to pick one per month for free
It’s only for a select group. It’s not for all books
I fond this article to be helpful in explaining the differences between accessing books with Amazon Prime and the Kindle Unlimited program. https://bookriot.com/2018/09/14/prime-reading-vs-kindle-unlimited/
Speaking of amazon prime borrowing, everyone should read this novella/short story. It’s free and so good! https://www.amazon.com/Evidence-Affair-Taylor-Jenkins-Reid-ebook/dp/B07GN867XT/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1539888157&sr=8-1&keywords=evidence+of+the+affair
Thanks!
Following, I have Prime and didn’t know books were available
@Lisa me either
@Lisa @Sue Don’t forget Amazon First Reads, too! https://www.amazon.com/firstreads
@Megan how do we get these?
@Sue if you click on the link I think you’ll see the option of 5 or 6 books. First reads lets you pick one for free to own. Just make your selection and add the kindle version to your cart. It should show up as $0.00 in your cart. Then you just purchase it. I think the selections you do not choose are still available at a discounted choice. Let me know if you have any problems. @Megan thank you so much!
@Sue @Megan I just downloaded one for free!!!
@Ted thank you so much. I have had prime for a long time and did not know this existed. I am an avid reader and this has made my day!
You are welcome. You should get the Goodreads app.
I use it to track my reading and to find titles.
It is free.
FYI- Last Prime Day Kindle Unlimited was a $1 per month for 3 months. I simply placed the date in my calendar when the charges would increase to the regular rate and cancelled my subscription.
@Martha I did this! Mine ended yesterday
@Heather mine ended this week also! Best deal, hopefully next prime day we can resubscribe.
@Martha I think so.
Thanks for that tip! I think I’ll cancel now and wait it out too.
With kindle unlimited you can borrow ten books
We have Prime, but my husband ordered it and I don’t have access. Unfortunately, he’s not a reader.
Really? I called Amazon and they told me I was out of luck! I’ll look into this again.
Thank you!
I get the 2 day shipping, but they said I couldn’t access the free books.
I believe that used to be the case but they changed it. Now you should be able to.
Thank you!
@Alison I was in the same predicament. He added me as his family and now I can access Amazon First Reads, Prime Video and Prime books!! (Make sure you get your free book every month from First Reads!!)
Here’s how you do it: https://www.amazon.com/gp/help/customer/display.html?nodeId=202073740
Kezia King I think I’m on. I’ll make sure. Thank you!
Wow thank you for posting this!!!
Quoted from the article above: “Second—and this is the BIG difference between the two—is what titles are available on each service. Prime Reading gives you access to a little over 1,000 titles that rotate in and out periodically. Kindle Unlimited gives you access to over 1,000,000 titles.”
@Samantha but, I find the 1,000,000 titles are typically far from cream of the crop. ?
@Amy oh yeah definitely. But 1,000,000 is definitely better than 1000 when it comes to finding something.
I dont think it’s available in canada
If you belong to many public libraries (which is usually free) you can borrow ebooks free of charge too.
I am new to Amazon’s ebooks and don’t have a prime membership but I did sign up for Kindle unlimited witch I am pleased with so far! I found this helpful.

Is it $15/mo for you?
@Maureen 9.99 a month after the 30 day free trial they are running now!
Bob Ogden I think I pay the same!
@Maureen I wonder why they are charging you 15?! That’s so strange!
@Krysta it’s the http://audible.com/ is $15 month. Probably going to cancel.
@Maureen oooh! I see. I like reading books as opposed to listening to them! I’d cancel it too if you aren’t using it.
This is not true for all countries.
