If I already have an iPad, why would I need a kindle? Thinking of getting one, but do I really need it. Does anyone have both?

Kindle definitely better for your eyes, compact, and the battery lasts a lot longer.

It’s better on the eyes to read on a kindle. It’s lighter, better battery life etc

Kindle (not the Kindle Fire) is kinder on your eyes and you can read in sunlight. So if you read a lot and/or want to be able to read outside. I’d say yes, you need both. I love my Ipad and have reference books on it, but my Kindle paperwhite is for serious reading.

I think you need both. Reading constantly on a tablet would make my eyes very dry and |I would need drops. Kindle ereader mimics a regular book and is definitely easier on the eyes.

Read into the benefits. I have kindle unlimited and it’s $10 and not only can you get over 700,000 titles for free, you also get to choose two pre releases for free. I realize it’s not free but at $10 for unlimited books, it’s free lol

I had a Sony Reader. Then my husband got me an ipad. I finally gave away the Sony, stored library included. Having more than one just confused me and I ended up buying some books a second time.

I have both. I bought the kindle to use outside mostly when I’m around the pool. I found that I take it with me when I have appointments etc. that involves waiting.

I have both. I use the kindle to commute. You won’t buy the same book twice if they are in the same account. Having said that, I had the kindle before the iPad

I think people keep a kindle if the plan to read outside …at a beach or a pool…ipad still difficult but if you are not reading outside you don’t need a kindle

Absolutely….I had an original kindle….and it was full…and who gets rid of books? And the battery wasn’t charging…so I ordered a voyager…..so glad I did…the weight is book like….love the back light. And I love the features of kindle …with no glare! I quit using my Ipad for reading books…

I have both – don’t read on iPad – you can read kindle in bright sun light and battery lasts longer. I would perhaps read on iPad if it was a book with photos such as a biography.

I have ipad and kindle, I find reading on the kindle easier as it lighter to hold I find laying in bed with iPad is just too heavy and I end up reading less so since I had my kindle I don’t read on iPad at all

I have both. Not essential, but I love it.

I have both. To me it’s essential because the light from the iPad is too bright although with the Kindle app you can make it dimmer but it is too heavy for me to hold for long periods of time and when I bought the new kindle I didn’t know I could make the iPad darker with the Kindle app and that’s my story and I’m sticking to it

And remember you can share in the family now on kindle. Since I am the reader- my better half has a library from which to choose.
