Even though they take place in a fictional parish in Northern Louisiana, the Southern Vampire mysteries by Charlaine Harris are very fun!

I also really loved The Infinite by Nicholas Mainieri! It’s an intense but beautifully-written book about teen love in post-Katrina New Orleans

Oh please read Islands Beneath the Sea, Isabel Allende’s fabulous Historical fiction story. It tells such tale of the Carribean/NOLA connection as through the slave trades. I never dreamed of this connection, it explains a lot about the rich and diverse ethnicity there. Not to mention the music and cuisine. All wrapped into a great story, it doesn’t get better than that.
