Kittens first full moon, my friend rabbit, the paper bag princess…
One of my favorite memories is for Christmas/my birthday my grandma would take me to the book store and let me pick out some books. She would then wrap them and give them to me at the holiday. We would laugh over “remember to be surprised when you open them!” Maybe do something like that?

Anything by Julia Donaldson is a winner with my 2 and 3 year olds.

Tony Mitton and Ant Parker are a good bet for an introduction to information texts too. Super submarines, amazing aeroplanes etc. Loads of information but in a rhyme x x x

all of these books were proven not only with my children but in daycare classrooms for children’s ages 12 months all the way to the preschool rooms. The 12 to 36 month groups love these books especially if you have to sing or chant them.

The Velveteen Rabbit is a lovely book, but maybe mummy would have to lay it aside for a couple of years. It’s a classic though. I used to read it to my son, and it always brought a tear to my eye…

I started collecting Holly Hobbie books with Toot and Puddle as the characters. They were a hit with my grandson. Beautifully illustrated and neat stories to go with them.

This is my top favorite book. So easy to read out loud. the words roll off the tongue well.

“There are things about you, quite unlike any other. Things always known by your father or mother. So if you decide to be different one day… no worries, I’d know you anyways.

If one day we’re walking and talking, just us, when you’re abracadabra, a rhinoceros… I might be surprised, but just for a while… I’d know it was you by your magical smile.”

Has anyone mentioned Hairy McLary of Donaldson’s Dairy? Lots of different adventures with a motley crew of memorable characters, including Slinky Malinky and Scarface Claw. Shenanigans abound! ?

Shirley Hughes’ Alfie And Annie Rose books, also Dogger. Lovely cosy stories for little ‘uns with great illustrations to pore over and chat about. Also, The Baby’s Catelogue, and Peepo by Janet and Alan Ahlberg. Each Peach, Pear, Plum, and The Jolly Postman by the same authors are lovely too.
