It’s more that the design of the cover often gives a big hint as to the content or tone of the book, so I’ve been conditioned to be put off by certain covers or attracted to others. For instance, I won’t read a book with a bare-chested man on the cover.
While I’m very often attracted to a book by the cover, I try really hard not to be put off by it. While I know the plenty of covers are related to the story, sometimes they just aren’t. I’ve heard many authors say that as far as covers are concerned, publishers are more concerned from a marketing viewpoint. The point is catching someone’s eye long enough to at least pick the book up and look at it.
Never judge a book by it’s cover!! We once Skyped with an author who told us that rarely is the author included in the cover design and most of the time they don’t like the jacket cover design!
No, because the cover art is not a measure of the storyteller’s abilities. Now, I have been drawn to books because of their covers, but I always read the inside of the cover or back of the book before making my decision.
I don’t see it as a problem judging a book by the cover. I just feel one can miss out by having all the bells and whistles on the cover. Some very famous authors didn’t have striking covers.

Yep! I know it’s bad haha
so glad it is not just me!
@Iris you are not alone!
I pick out lot of my books by the cover, especially now that I am getting a lot of Kindle books. Cover is worth 75% of the book.
I’m reluctant to, title as well.
@Jenn yes! Must have a great title!
@Meagan oh no! I never thought of that! It is usually the cover that can send me running away!
@Iris I think a catchy title is very important when I pick my next book. Unless it’s a recommendation. Then I will read it regardless of title cover.
I usually pick up books because of the cover.
If I like the cover I think I’ll probably like the book.
Yep ?♀️
Mostly follow that thought
My son selects books based on their cover art. Drives me crazy.
i usually hate books that has the movie poster cover on it
@Aileen I agree!
Agreed!
Me too. “Get off my book, Hollywood. This isn’t about you” is what I’m thinking.
I’m like that with wine ???
I won’t read a book with the movie poster because it is an adaptation of the book and not the actual book !
Sometimes it’s the actual book, but they think the movie cover will attract more people. It repels me though.

Sometimes just depends
Kinda yes.
Omg I thought this was only me.
I know you shouldn’t judge a book by its cover, but I’m afraid I do that too at times, especially if it isn’t a well-known author.
I am the same way
Yes! Definitely me
Funny but yes!
The cover draws me in, then I read the synopsis, and lastly a couple pages. If it passes those 3 criteria… I buy it. Lol.
Author, cover, title, summary.

Thought I was the oddball!
Well, if it’s got ripped abs and a woman in distress on the cover, it’s definitely a no-go.
I thought I was the only one.
??
Yep
I’m usually taken in by the title. When I go to Paradise aka Barnes and Noble I sometimes let the book choose me.
Yes ?
No that is unfair but well it happens i guess and there is no right or wrong way in this regard anyway.funny
Mmm! You can’t judge a book by looking at the cover. It doesn’t affect me.
I really know that but….
Covers do grab my attention when looking for a new read.
The cover is definitely a factor in my choice of books.
Yea. Cover has to catch my eye
Im guilty of judging a book by its cover!
Guilty
Yes
No. I would hate to think of the amazing reads I would miss out on.
You are much smarter than me! I should remember that!
I too judge a book by its cover. Not sorry lol!
It’s not that I won’t read it, but I tend to pass it by if not drawn to the cover. But, I will read if recommended by others.
Me!
??
They say don’t judge a book by it’s cover, but I do sometimes?
I do choose and dismiss by cover.
i hate books that are not quite impressive on their looks!my anwer would be a yes

The cover plays no part in my choice of a book. Ever.
Yep, show me blood, a weapon, I’m not reading it.
Yes! Lol
Covers frequently help me find books….I love good covers!
But you “you can’t judge a book by it’s cover”.

Hi, my name is Sue and I judge books by their cover. l’m not proud of this fact but admitting you have a problem…
I don’t see it as a problem judging a book by the cover. I just feel one can miss out by having all the bells and whistles on the cover. Some very famous authors didn’t have striking covers.

I lone good ovets and more often than not it will entice me to look into the book further. Usually not a deal breaker unless the cover screams romance
Sometimes…
There are some very bad covers that make me cringe.
