I want a book that will make me cry. Romantic but not cheesy, and obviously well written. Any ideas please?

The Pursuit of Happiness by Douglas Kennedy. I read it purely because it was recommended by my manager and thought I’d hate it (it had a cheesy ‘romance’ front cover). But ended up loving it. I reread it every few years. ☺️?

As well as ones already suggested (me before you series, time travellers wife) I also really enjoyed One Plus One (also by JoJo Moyes) & am currently reading The Night Circus which is a fantasy romance about two magicians which isn’t my usual type but I’m hooked! Personally quite surprised to see the notebook so many times, I adored the film but one of those rare occasions where I thought the book was terrible in comparison ?

I’m reading The Fault In Our Stars with my 12 year old. That might fit the bill? I don’t think it’s particularly aimed at kids although teens are the central characters.

Perhaps Meet Me At the Museum? It’s not necessarily a tearjerker but it’s very moving.

This secret we’re keeping by Rebecca Done, is a tough and pretty heartbreaking read, it’s stayed with me ever since I finished. The Ballroom by Anna Hope, too had me sobbing. Also, just read the Flat share by Beth O’Leary. I found myself reaching for the tissues a few times.
