Ok. Just wanted that clarification before I recommended a book. For that kind, I can recommend something. For the other, I can’t, and don’t think I want to be able to, recommend anything.
Grave Mercy by Robin LaFevers. It’s a historical-romance-fantasy book that’s one of three in a series. I have all three books, but I have yet to complete them. The first book (Ismae’s story) is thought the best, the second book (Sybella’s story) is thought the darkest, and the third book (Annith’s story) was the least liked of all three books, but I beg to differ.
What genre?
Like adult as in targeted specifically for adults, or adult as in “adult???”
@Jaron targeted specifically

If you like modern fantasy or modern mythology, go with Iron Druid Chronicles. Super funny and actiony.
If you like supernatural, Harry Dresden Files.
If you like more realistic with a hint of action, go with James Patterson (the adult ones, not the YA ones).
I would also recommend War of the Worlds. It’s a short read, but well worth it.
Game of Thrones is very dry, but the storyline is good.
Sherlock Holmes is always a good choice. It’s a classic, but wondrous.
I have a friend who raves about the Handmaids Tale. I haven’t read it, but it is supposed to be good.
My wife loved The Help, Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, and Water for Elephants.
And lastly, books by Neil Gaimen. He’s in my TBR pile and I’ve heard nothing but good about him. But I haven’t yet read it.
@Jaron thank you
@Sydney Not a problem! Hope it helps.
The Extraordinary Life of Sam Hell by Robert Dugoni.
Try “Less” by Andrew Sean Greer. Intelligent, witty and entertaining.
