If you are in a funk I would recommend Callahan’s Crosstime Saloon. It’s up beat, funny.. the series has highs, lows, laughs and cries. But mostly a lot of good laughs.

Stephen Erikson. Malazan Book of the Fallen (10 book series plus off shoots and Ian Esslemont (i think that’s his name) also wrote of the same world and same characters. They based the series on a D & D game they played together.

Dune by frank Herbert… and then Dune Messiah, children of Dune and God Emperor of Dune. Deep and immersive.
Don’t be put off by the film or tv series. The books are a work of genius.

Honestly, theres some romance involved but the Black Dagger Brotherhood series is the freaking awesome! The 1st book is called Lover Eternal. Sorry its romance but it has really awesome kick ass action and is very well written. I couldn’t slow down for a WHILE! And theres like 12 books in the series!
