I read it. It was just ok. I’m not a big fan of the author. She chooses wonderful topics but fails to fully develop the plot. The end always feels rushed and has some gimmick.

1

Robyn

@Neva couldn’t agree more, especially this book! I read just after The Hate U Give and was underwhelmed – Angie Thomas pulled this topic off far better!

Ok I am 100 pages in and the racism makes me nauseous, I don’t know if it’s for me. Thoughts?

Tamara

@Lisa it’s the point of the book.

@Tamara I think I have been feeling overwhelmed with all the hatred in the world right now and have been hiding out in books. ❤️

0
Tamara

i hear ya on the hatred. It’s awful

0
LisaQuestion author

@Tamara maybe I should put this one aside for a bit.

0
Tanya

@Lisa it has a very good ending, if you go through with it you probably won’t be disappointed

2
LisaQuestion author

@Tanya I needed to hear that. Thank you. I like hope.

I got about 100 pages in, and stopped too. Racism was really tough for me as well

Kymm

I know the racism is horrendous in this book, but that’s what got me so interested and amazed that this could go on. With the state of our Country right now I feel something like this could happen. That’s what kept me so mesmerized with the story. It could really happen in today’s world

Christina

Kymm L. Cummins unfotunately the book is loosely based off of an actual incident in Flint, Mi. Plus, racist words, actions and instances happen everyday.

2
Jennifer

It really made me think. I don’t look at a lot of people the same any more these days. Not because of this book. The book just validated some ugly truths

0
Kymm

@Jennifer Didn’t know it was loosely based on a true story. Good to know, but also very sad
