I don’t know if these were the saddest I’ve read, but two I read recently were pretty sad, but really, really good. They are My Life As A Bench by Jaq Hazell and What Remains True by Janis Thomas. I loved them both.

@Chelsea No problem. Let’s just say that I’m happy I had a cold when I read this one. I blamed my tears on watery eyes from my cold. ?

@Sandra have only seen the film. Guessing the book is much better but are there any changes to the story?

0
Sandra

Susan Smokler the book is just WOW. I preferred it to the film. It makes me cry every time (the book) and the book is slightly different.

1
Susan

@Sandra thanks. I must read it.

1
Sandra

@Susan Must now read it again!

0
Carolyn

Its been over 20 years since I read it, and so it was well before the movie and I had no knowledge of the events in the book. It hit me like a ton of bricks and I burst out in nearly hysterical sobs!

@Shyla, is it very sad? My daughter who is 13 (but quite an old 13) is desperate to read it.

0
Reply
ShylaQuestion author

@Kaye it’s amazing! I recommend it! I think it would be ok for a 13 year old I mean I am like a 5 year old when it comes to sad books haha I think it will be alright for her!

1
Kaye

Haha, thanks! I’ve always encouraged her to read whatever she chooses, and she’s chosen this. My reservation is that my girly has CF – I don’t feel like I can contradict everything I’ve said about her choosing her reads for herself (obviously with some limits!) but equally don’t want her to be upset/anxious if it’s totally soul destroying!

0
Kaye

She came home from school tonight talking about it so I’ve not had chance to read it myself, hence searching it on here for reviews!! ?
