Don’t think of Outlander as romance. I suggest Mary Balogh’s survivor series, Julie Anne Long’s Pennyroyal series, Elizabeth Hoyt ‘s Maiden Lane series to start with

@Sharyn Outlander to me is a lot of things: a little sci fi, a little history and for sure romance between Claire and Jamie.

Try reading anything from @Lynda or Scarlett Black. That is if you like your romance books a little steamy. Okay, more than a little steamy.

Yes that is the first book in that series and is great fun! This is followed by Duke by Default which is about her best friend Portia-which is on my to read list!
I would recommend anything by Jill Mansell -I once had a friend who bought me Rumour has it by Jill Mansell as a birthday present-I don’t usually read much chick-flit but I actually really loved it and ended up reading all her other books ( I usually read a lot of fantasy novels). Jill Mansell’s books are all individual standalone books so you can read them in any order you like.

@Mary Have you read Cruel and Beautiful by A.M Hargrove? It’s a tear-jerker! And a big naughty, I’ll admit. But it’s amazing.

@Kristen I’ll try that one. Thanks.

I second Susan Elizabeth Phillips or Jennifer Crusie’s early books. If you want something a little more contemporary, try Christina Lauren’s Beautiful Bastard. Hysterically funny, especially in audio format. My absolute favorite historical romance, aside from Georgette Heyer’s books which are in a class by themselves, is The Madness of Lord Ian MacKenzie by Jennifer Ashley

I regularly read all of these authors.

Pamela Clare, Tessa Dare, Sarah Maclean, Alisha Rai, Alyssa Cole, Rebekah Weatherspoon
Penelope Ward, Vi Keeland (they write collaboratively, too).
Jennifer Ashley, Kristen Ashley, Sawyer Bennett, Katie Ruggle, Avery Flynn, Rebecca Zanetti, Emma Chase, Kaylea Cross, Talia Hibbert, Sarina Bowen, Amanda Quick, Jayne Ann Krentz, Jessica Scott

Jasmine Guillory’s two books The Wedding Date and The Proposal are both great. They aren’t overly cheesy but still romantic.

I just finished Big, Sexy, Love by Kirsten Greenwood. It was funny but not steamy. Sort of reminded me of Bridget Jones Diary as the author is English. I would recommend!
