A Darker Shade of Magic by VE Schwab
Black magician trilogy
Who is the author???
Almost anything by Raymond E. Feist, but in particular The Empire-trilogy he wrote with Janny Wurts. The Mists of Avalon by Zimmer Bradley. Game of Thrones by RR Martin. Brent Weeks books.
I have read The Mists of Avalon and really liked it.
War of powers by by Robert E. Vardeman and Victor Milan.
Everything and I do mean EVERYTHING by Tolkien. And also (from my own backyard) The Witcher series by Andrzej Sapkowski (the books that the games are based on)
The Witcher-series is great! While I love Tolkien, I did see a thread here where someone recommended reading Silmarillion to someone who hadn’t read any of his books, which I think is the best way to kill all interest in Tolkien. So a word of advice read the LOTR-trilogy and The Hobbit first and if you’re still intrested then read EVERYTHING 🙂
Mystic cove by Tricia O’Malley. Dark witch, shadow spell and blood magick by Nora Roberts. Discovery of witches trilogy
I read LOTR and The Hobbit practically in one sitting when I was a teenager. And then gave up while trying to comprehend Silmarillion.
I have read the Lord of the Rings books years ago when I was trying to find an genre my husband would like so I could turn him on to books.
The Magicians
by Lev Grossman?
Yep
They’re basically adult Harry Potter
(although I haven’t read HP…)
I’ve been wanting to read it but I’ve seen several people saying that it’s really bad :/
I still want to read it though
I liked them. There were aspects I didn’t like but overall I like them
The show is actually pretty good too!
Barring these, definitely get some Neil Gaiman and Terry Pratchett.

The Black Jewels books by Anne Bishop or Kushiel’s books by Jacqueline Carey
Wheel of Time, Sword of Truth Series, Patrick Rothfuss Name of the wind, Robin Hobb books.
I cannot reccomend Neil Gaiman highly enough (think Stardust, Neverwhere, Ocean at the End of the Lane and American Gods). Also the Discworld series by Terry Pratchett. You could try the Elfstones of Shannara by Terry Brooks (not my favorite, but each to their own). Also the Mistborn series by Brendan Sanderson. The Wheel of Time series is worthwhile too.
I read ‘Ocean at the end of the lane’ and was really disappointed. I have Stardust and American Gods though so am hoping I get on with them better.
@Lorna really? different opinions I was crying by the end of Ocean at the end of the lane
Then Sword of Truth series by Terry Goodkind
The Deeds of Paksenarrion by Elizabeth Moon

Name of the Wind
Who is the author???
Brandon Sanderson’s Mistborn series
The Name Of The Wind
Should we warn about the series not been finished yet? 🙂
I am reading a mystery series that was suppose to be a trilogy and is now 45 books long and she has another one coming out in september. A series not being finished doesn’t bother me, just means I have to catch up so I can be with the rest of the readers when the new one comes out.
@Ivy The warning is because the two books are really addictive and do not complete a story at all, making you want the next one a lot more than most series.
@Ivy is the mystery series In Death by J.D Robb ???
@David who is the author???
@Suzanne yes is is the In Death series..
@Ivy Patrick Rothfuss
I had a feeling @Ivy. I love that series ?
The Shannara books
What is the first book in the series???
The Sword Of Shannara
Fiona mcintosh the quickening series
Farseer trilogy, the Live Ship trilogy, the tawny man trilogy by Robin Hobb
What type of fantasy?
I have no idea what kind is out there so any you would like to recommend.
The Greywalker Series by Kat Richardson, the Iron Druid Series by Kevin Hearne and the Landowner Series by Terry Brooks
I have read the Landover series when my daughter wanted to read it years ago. I was screening her books back then.

Dresden files 🙂
The Once and Future King
Xanth series.
I love the Xanth series. I need to get caught up on it. Started reading it years ago when I was still screening my daughters books to make sure they didn’t have a lot of sex in then when she was in elementary school.
Good Mom! I screened music too.
The Queen of the Tearling by Erika Johansen!
Ursula Leguin’s work is great!
Also there is a Terry Pratchett’s work.
Gail Z. Martin has several excellent fantasy series. I’d start with Chronicles of the Necromancer series. The first book is called The Summoner.
GAME OF THRONES!!!
The Mistborn Series, A Darker Shade of Magic.
Shannon Mayer ?
Anne McCaffrey pern. Marion Zimmer Bradley darkover.
Following!
It’s almost mean and sadistic that I am suggesting these two but they are by far two of my most favorite fantasy books ever…… Unfortunately, they are one book away from being finished with no definitive publishing date ??
Patrick Rothfuss: The Kingkiller Chronicle
Brandon Sanderson: The Stormlight Archive
Even though the series is not finished, they are both completely worth the read.!
The mistborn series is a good read too.
Game of Thrones
Picked this one up yesterday.
Eragon series is also good
read the first book and didn’t really care for it but husband picked it up and read them all.
Game of Thrones!!!!

Dragon Lance

It’s a series. Lots of writers. Margaret Weiss* terry Brooks, Tracy Hickman to name a few
Will add it to my list and see what I can find.

Terry Goodkind’s Sword Of Truth series!
Anne McCaffrey – Dragonriders of Pern
Anything by David Eddings
Kushiels Dart by Jaqueline Carey
The Host or The Chemist, by Stephenie Meyer <3
Terry Pratchett’s Discworld series. Clever, witty wonderful books.

Kate Daniels series, by Ilona Andrews
Chicagoland vampires, by Chloe Neill
The Others, by Anne Bishop
A darker shade of magic by V E Schwab
I see you’ve been inundated, Ivy. However, I have to throw my two cents’ worth in, because I don’t see that anyone has mentioned Patricia McKillip. Her works don’t seem to circulate much now, but she is a prize-winning fantasy author who turned out so many great novels that I don’t know which one in particular to recommend. Pick a book, any book!
I’m going to look too
We Other by Sue Bentley – if I may recommend my own novel? Check out reviews on Amazon…
Any book by Charles deLint
I went to my local new/used book store yesterday and picked up The Sword of Shannara by Terry Brooks, Game of Thrones by George R. R. Martin, and Ship of Magic by Robin Hobb. I was also able to put several of the books that were recommended on my library wish list for when they come available as ebooks to put on my kindle. Now I just have to finish the book I am reading so I can start one of these.
