Fire Bringer by David Clement-Davies. Any book by Gregory Maguire will be a good choice. He does fairy tale retellings mostly.

Chronicles of the Warlands by Elizabeth Vaughn. The first three make up a trilogy. It’s based on a romance and it has a historical feel to it. I absolutely loved it and have reread the first 3 books many times. All the books in the series are good.
