I usually have a fiction ebook (or print), a fiction audiobook and a non-fiction book going at the same time. I try to read different fiction genres, so the stories aren’t too similar. For example, a sci-fi audio and a cozy mystery ebook. I always have more than one book going at the same time.
I’m trying to read more non-fiction, and seem to be tending towards science. If I’m too tired, I just don’t absorb enough. I usually have one or more fiction books going at the same time.
My subconscious merges the books, story line and or characters, in my dreams sometimes. Then I have to mentally sort everything back out when I wake up. Lol
Well, I read three together. Finished the one I started last,, presently finishing the third one before I will go to the one I started first. It’s fun.
Me too. Lol. My hubby is very neat, and my books everywhere annoy him slightly. But after 25 years of marriage, he has learned that I am much more pleasant to live with if he leaves them where they are. ?
its kind of just like watching different tv shows. u don’t get plots or characters mixed up, so u just watch/read whichever one you feel like at the moment.
I usually read two very different genres and mostly in two different languages too, so the plots never get mixed up 😉 (also I have mostly a book for reading at home and the other one on my Kindle to read it on the bus)
I usually have a physical book and an ebook going at the same time. Ebook is for when it’s inconvenient or improbable to have my physical book (in bed, when my book light keeps my husband up, in a waiting room or doctors office if I forget my physical book, etc.).
Well, I almost always have a paper fiction book, an e book, a non fiction book and an audiobook in process. Usually I have several fiction books going at once.
Now that I can’t do, listen to an audiobook while working. I either lose the thread of the book or not get much work done. But if I’m really close to the end of one when I get in, I have been known to suddenly get motivated to catch up on filing so I can finish. Lol. The rest of the time the filing tends to build up.
I am going through the same situation. Im reading 3 books different genre. 1 fictional 2 self help . I just bought 3 more bags of books and cant wait to start ?
I read non-fiction every morning, have an audiobook for the car or when I am cleaning, and read fiction in evenings when I am ready to wind down. And I always have a spare ready.
I read a paperback during the day and my kindle at night. Sometimes I may read a paperback during the day and a non fiction at night. Split up your time. And make sure the books are totally different in storylines if they are both fiction
I always used to be nervous to read more than one book until I actually started to do it. As long as the story lines are somewhat different it’s easy to keep track. The only thing I find myself doing is if I’m reading like 4 books at the same time I will end up getting attached to one of them and finishing it before I go back to the other 3
I have a car book, night stand book, and a living room book 🙂 (the car book is anytime im out and about and have a down minute, or taking a break at work to read 10 minutes)
I to tried this and discovered I’m a one book kind of woman lol. I’m totally ok with it tho. I just get too wrapped up in one world and end up neglecting the other. So one at a time it is.
I can’t read two physical books at once, but I am able to have one physical/kindle that I carry with me at all times and I have an audio going in the car for when I drive. Otherwise their would be no way in hell I could do it. My sister in law is one of those that can be reading up to 5 books at a time and it boggles my mind.
I can’t do it either. My brain only has room for one story at a time. Nice thing about iBooks is no matter what device I read on it picks up on the right page
I usually have different genres going at a time. Right now I’m currently reading a fantasy lore tome, a biography, a non-fiction science, a self-help non-fiction, and a modern-day fantasy. (Wow, that’s more non-fiction than I usually have going at once! ?)
And I tend to read whichever suits my mood or the weather. (I finished a YA romance the other day when it was sunny.)
Have ADHD. Get distracted/bored with one book after 20 minutes even if you’re loving it and really WANT to read it, and pick up another book in an entirely different genre. Repeat 4 times in one day — voila! You’re reading 5 different books.
I don’t usually do this. However, sometimes I’ll start a non-fiction book that gets a little tedious, so I might put it down for a bit and read something lighter. Also, I usually have one book that I read at bedtime (this stays in my bedroom) and another book for elsewhere in the house (instead of taking my cell phone into the bathroom ?).
I usually read between 2 and 3 at a time, on of which is a kindle that I read when i need to travel light. The other is an academic, heaver read that needs concentration and usually needs longer to be read. The third one ist he fastes, main book.
When I’m sitting on an actual chair or sofa, I read a physical book. When I’m lying down or walking (it’s dangerous, I know), I read an ebook ?
I mean both are two different books ?
Same here.

I agreed with Kathy, the trick is to read very different books so you don’t get storylines mixed up! 🙂
My subconscious merges the books, story line and or characters, in my dreams sometimes. Then I have to mentally sort everything back out when I wake up. Lol
Well, I read three together. Finished the one I started last,, presently finishing the third one before I will go to the one I started first. It’s fun.
I’m not that structured…it seems to be whatever happens
I think the most suspenseful one hooks you and keeps you reading.
I have a purse book, a bed book, a couch book, a “weekend binge book” etc 🙂
Me too. Lol. My hubby is very neat, and my books everywhere annoy him slightly. But after 25 years of marriage, he has learned that I am much more pleasant to live with if he leaves them where they are. ?

Oh this explanation explains it perfectly! I am a TV addict so now I get it!
I try to use this explanation all the time and people usually just tell me that it’s not the same and can’t explain to me why it’s not.
@Beth Nope I get it 100%!
No I can’t either…..do not understand why anyone does….
Exactly
I usually read two very different genres and mostly in two different languages too, so the plots never get mixed up 😉 (also I have mostly a book for reading at home and the other one on my Kindle to read it on the bus)
I always have two going, one on Audible for when I’m driving or doing housework, and one in print or on Kindle for other times.
I usually have a physical book and an ebook going at the same time. Ebook is for when it’s inconvenient or improbable to have my physical book (in bed, when my book light keeps my husband up, in a waiting room or doctors office if I forget my physical book, etc.).

Why? What’s the purpose???
I just want to know I have friends in goodreads they have 17 books and more in their currently reading shelves !! Is that possible!
I can’t either. I can read a book and listen to a biography but only because I don’t have to keep up with characters or plot in the biography.
I do it everytime i get bored, so i’d jump from one book to another. And there are times I would be confused and mixed them up together.
I read 2 at a time but each one a different genre then I dont get mixed up between the two
Well, I almost always have a paper fiction book, an e book, a non fiction book and an audiobook in process. Usually I have several fiction books going at once.
I sometimes read 3 books at the same time
You’ve gotta be kidding me. Is that even for real?
No .
Different genres /formats normally do it for me.
I’ll have a romance audiobook going on – but will read a physical crime fiction novel 🙂
I have a bed book, a train book and an audio book for when I am walking and can’t read! ?
I’m usually reading around 6 books at the same time ? Mostly from different genres
I have a physical book that I read during my breaks at work, a Kindle that I read before I go to bed, and I listen to an audio book while I’m working.
Now that I can’t do, listen to an audiobook while working. I either lose the thread of the book or not get much work done. Thankfully my work is fairly simple, so it isn’t usually a problem for me… and it has the added bonus of drowning out the idiots around me. 😉
I have physical book to read during breaks at work and my kindle for reading before bed.
I am going through the same situation. Im reading 3 books different genre. 1 fictional 2 self help . I just bought 3 more bags of books and cant wait to start ?
I didn’t used to but now I read one and listen to one!
I read one book, then two anime manga books
One in my hand or in Kindle, one audio when driving.
I read non-fiction every morning, have an audiobook for the car or when I am cleaning, and read fiction in evenings when I am ready to wind down. And I always have a spare ready.
Well for me personally it is easy as long as I read different genres.
1 on Kindle, 1 physical and 1 audio.
I read a paperback during the day and my kindle at night. Sometimes I may read a paperback during the day and a non fiction at night. Split up your time. And make sure the books are totally different in storylines if they are both fiction
Also, have different genres
One fiction, one or more nonfiction most of the time.?
I always used to be nervous to read more than one book until I actually started to do it. As long as the story lines are somewhat different it’s easy to keep track. The only thing I find myself doing is if I’m reading like 4 books at the same time I will end up getting attached to one of them and finishing it before I go back to the other 3
I do that, too!
Same here.
I have a car book, night stand book, and a living room book 🙂 (the car book is anytime im out and about and have a down minute, or taking a break at work to read 10 minutes)
Oh that’s pretty cool!
I read up to 6 books. And what I do is I read a good amount of pages from each book every day
Combo of audio, ebook, paper…in combo of fiction, nonfiction, short stories/essays!
this is how I do it
LOL I do it all the time. Crazy!
Why do you need to?
I just want to know I have friends in goodreads they have 17 books and more in their currently reading shelves !! Is that possible!
I to tried this and discovered I’m a one book kind of woman lol. I’m totally ok with it tho. I just get too wrapped up in one world and end up neglecting the other. So one at a time it is.
Me too !!!
I just got curious,I saw that one of my friends in goodreads reads have 17 books in their currently reading shelve
I multitask. So, for me it is easy to read up to 4-5 books at a time.. Maybe it isn’t your thing.
At most. 2 books. 1 ebook and 1 audiobook.
How do you manage to watch so many different tv shows? Same thing.
I alternate audiobook while in car or at work, ebook at night in bed or on work breaks, physical book during bubble baths or on days off.
I can’t do it either. My brain only has room for one story at a time. Nice thing about iBooks is no matter what device I read on it picks up on the right page
I read several different books at once, but they have to be different from one another or it’s chaos.
Same here lol

I usually read 2-3 at the same time. I have different moods through out the day, so that calls for different books 😀
If there are really huge books that are kind of slow I break them up sometimes and read another one as well
I tried several times and never managed to read only one book at a time. I need to have at least 2, so I can alternate in different times of the day.
It’s not a requirement. Read at your own pace. Read like you want, can and need
Practice. Lots of practice. ?
I usually read between 2 and 3 at a time, on of which is a kindle that I read when i need to travel light. The other is an academic, heaver read that needs concentration and usually needs longer to be read. The third one ist he fastes, main book.
