1
Siri

@Belynda It’s sort of Asian Mortal Instruments meets foul-mouthed shapeshifting Wushu warriors.????

2
BelyndaQuestion author

@Siri that sounds pretty interesting. I do like the MI series and I like foul mouthed anything lol. What is a Wushu warrior though? They sounds pretty cool

1
Siri

Belynda Rios Wushu means martial arts like Kung Fu, Tai chi, etc—basically a word the means all variations of Chinese Martial Arts (that actually originated in India)

-1
BelyndaQuestion author

@Siri Oh ok. that makes sense!!

0
Siri

?? If you liked TMI, and you don’t hate strange character names–you’d probably enjoy it?

0
Siri

@Belynda This is book two–and the final book in the trilogy comes out on the 22nd???

Reading made me want to become a writer… I am an aspiring one at the moment. What with juggling four kids under 8 nd a full time job of mowing lawns, I still try to squeeze in some writing time. 😛

1
Reply
BelyndaQuestion author

I know that pain. I try to squeeze writing time in where I can here and there….but it’s not happening. I do November NaNoWriMo though.

0
Terehia

Those are definitely something I wanted to do, but by the time I found out about it is was a couple months later. At the moment I’m on Wattpad trying to do stories, they are just drafts at the moment (too scared to publish) and I have a bad habit of starting a new novel all the time. So I have 7 half written novels waiting for me. 😛

1
BelyndaQuestion author

@Terehia I have a ton of new ones too! I write a new one every November. But it also helps me weed out what I think is great and what is just ok. Plus, writing is one of those skills that you just have to do it to get better lol

0
Terehia

I have a Diary app where I write a new book Idea everyday , just just so I can go back and see what Is good and what is not. Plus I love to handwrite a lot so I lo he a lot of exercise books full of stories that I attempted to write when I was a teen (12 years ago) right up until I got my first smartphone.

0
BelyndaQuestion author

that’s pretty cool. I have a dream journal that I write those down for ideas.

0
Siri

@Belynda You can do it!! Believe me, if I can do it—ANYONE can!!???

1
Amanda

Lol yeah I don’t have any of that motivation haha sorry

1
Siri

@Belynda That’s what an editor is for!

1
BelyndaQuestion author

well yeah, but I’d like to get through three drafts before I send it to an editor. right now….I’m still in draft 2

1
Siri

@Belynda You’ll have another couple after beta readers–then again after the editor??

1

@Siri Oh man. I just need to make myself get through them.

1

It’s hard when random characters demand that I write their stories. (Meaning random ideas pop up and I must start writing about them.

1
BelyndaQuestion author

Yeah characters are fickle like that

1
Larisa

I’m currently writing my first. It is set in Greece, during the WW2, when a young girl is confronted with the horrors of war. It is in honor of many Greek women who fought with the Resistance against the Nazis.

1
BelyndaQuestion author

That’s a pretty cool concept. I would really love more books about women at war. Considering a lot of them focus on the men’s point of view.

1
Larisa

Absolutely! The women played such a big role and their support was invaluable.

She then gets her knee hurt so bad she can never play again. you have to watch her lose the only thing to make her happy in her life in her life full of depression, anxiety, torment and bullying and watch her blossom to find something to make her happy again and that there is more love in her life than she ever knew.

I’d like to. I love historical fiction and would love to write historical fiction for children and young adults but the process of getting published seems so difficult. Might start just writing for fun and see where it leads.

2

You can always start by self-publishing! ?

2
BelyndaQuestion author

That’s always a great idea!! And I follow a lot of publishers on like twitter so I can see what it is that I need to do to get published through them. but have a lot of friends that also self published. It’s pretty cool.

I’ve written a 5-part ‘contemporary’ romance series (the Rhapsody Series), a paranormal mystery (Lock Box), a short story collection (Storytella), a chic lit (Double Dare) and several other novels. Currently working on a memoir, in addition to a few other novels… the reason I’m taking a hiatus on reading.?

1
Kiera

Me I love to write so much problem is don’t know how to get published

1
Reply
BelyndaQuestion author

I follow publishers on twitter that help with that. but it’s all about the research. get an agent if you’re going traditional or looking into things about self publishing

1
Kiera

Thank you I will so should I write the whole series before I try to get published

0
BelyndaQuestion author

I would personally write the first draft of the whole series. And then have a more polished version of the first one before looking for an agent. If you can say hey, here is the first book and I know there are x number of books in the rest of the series, it’ll be good.

0
Kiera

K thank you so much your awesome

1
Colin

Yes, I have published several text book, both solo authored, co-authored, and co-edited. Not likely to be made into films, but widely read and hopefully had an impact on the reader and the quality of their work. https://www.amazon.co.uk/d/Books/Rapid-Research-Methods-Nurses-Midwives-Health-Professionals/1119048419/ref=sr_1_9?ie=UTF8&qid=1496525005&sr=8-9&keywords=colin+rees

3
Reply
BelyndaQuestion author

that’s pretty cool!! how was it to co author?

0
Colin

Thanks @Belynda. There are ups and downs to co-authoring, and of course it depends who you are working with and their writing skills and previous experience. The up side is the book gets finished quicker. If they are a good writer and have a similar approach to writing as you, you get valuable suggestions and feedback, which helps your own creativity. The downside is you can have different concerns and priorities. They can be happy with the standard and type of comment you just wouldn’t submit. They can also work at a different pace to you. Given the choice, I would single author as the work has a clear single and consistent voice, which makes it easier for the reader. Things are also more under your own control. I am sure it is possible to get that perfect partnership and get all the benefits, but so far I prefer the books that are solely mine.

3
Reply
BelyndaQuestion author

Oh that’s interesting! I’ve never even tried a hand at those because they’re so different from what I write!! What is it about?

1
Amelia

It’s a horror movie. Unique monster – the skunk ape, which is like a bigfoot that lives in the Florida everglades. 🙂

1
BelyndaQuestion author

@Amelia Oh I do love horror movies!! Does it pass the Bechdal (that’s not spelled right) test?

1
Amelia

Interesting! I had to look that up. There are women in the story, as well as men, but they all interact with each other. There are romantic relationships involved between the characters, but it’s not the focus.

0
BelyndaQuestion author

For sure. The test is typically to see if women are there merely as a prop. And horror is one of the worst about not passing it. I remember all the things about my horror movie class but the exact words, which makes it hard to understand how to ask specific questions lol

1
Amelia

They are equal to the men. 🙂

0
BelyndaQuestion author

Good good!! The only horror movie that does that well so far really is The Descent. It’s the one that we studied in class. I love creature horror though. Is it going to have like some found history of the creature?

1
Amelia

Basically, there’s a man who has been studying them. But the antagonists want to hunt them. Chaos ensues.

0
BelyndaQuestion author

Makes sense.

1
Amelia

It’s registered with the LoC and copywritten, so I don’t mind sharing it. 🙂

0

Library of Congress. 🙂

0
BelyndaQuestion author

Ah makes more sense now lol

0
BelyndaQuestion author

Are you excited for it? How does it get made into a movie? Idk much about that process

0
Amelia

I’d have to shop it around. There are organizations that do readings in front of producers, too. I just haven’t taken that step. I’ve considered rewriting it from a different angle.

0
BelyndaQuestion author

So it’s like the agent or no agent querying phase?

0
Amelia

Right. 🙂

1
BelyndaQuestion author

That phase scares the crap outta me

0
Amelia

No joke! I’ve been sitting on it for years debating whether to shop it out as is or rewrite it.

0
BelyndaQuestion author

Or like, move on to something else because maybe it’s not as awesome as you think. Because that’s me….95% of the time lol

0
Amelia

Right??? And I’ve had friends read it, but I can never tell if they actually like it or if they are just saying they do.

1
BelyndaQuestion author

Like, are you just being nice to me or is it good. Because I’ve read some books that were self published that were terrible. But their friends told them they were awesome.

0
Amelia

Yes!!!

0
BelyndaQuestion author

So, I don’t let friends beta. I have one friend that I’m sure will be a lot nicer.

0
Amelia

Yeah, I had a really good friend who worked in movies, and he was helping me with the script. But he passed away. I haven’t touched it since. I had another friend read it, and he was like, “OMG a MOM wrote that???” LOL! So, I guess that is a good review.

0
BelyndaQuestion author

The right kind of mom can write anything. I’ve been watching and/or reading horror since I was three. I dream in horror often too. But that does sound like a great review.

0
Amelia

I went for creepy. 🙂

1
Amelia

If you want to read it, send me your email address. 🙂

0
Amelia

Sent 🙂

0
Amelia

Do you own an agency? Cool gig. 🙂

1
BelyndaQuestion author

I do not. This use to be my email for modeling. now it’s my generic one. since I don’t really do much of that anymore.

0
BelyndaQuestion author

Nah. I think that it is mine. I have one.

0
BelyndaQuestion author

I just forget about it sometimes lol

0
Amelia

Yeah, I understand that if you’re not doing it anymore.

0
BelyndaQuestion author

Yeah I just do random personal projects. So it’s like once a year now….something like that.

1
Jake

I write. Written two novels so far. Came close to self-publishing but am ultimately holding out for traditional-publishing. Long or impossible as that may be. I’ll be sending off my second novel to agents soon, and am planning my third novel while I do 🙂

0
Reply
BelyndaQuestion author

Oh that’s super cool. so you’re querying?

0
Jake

I will be soon. Yeah 🙂 See how that goes. I’m holding off at the momet because I have a two week holiday in a weeks time, and I don’t want to be glued to my emails while I’m chilling in the sun. Two weeks holiday = shit loads of reading time.

1
BelyndaQuestion author

I have another in which there is a girl that lives two lives. Ine during the day and one during her dreams!

1
Nikkie

Oh wow, that one sounds like something I’d read. How do you write two different books at once? I have to focus on one at a time tbh lmao

1
BelyndaQuestion author

I needed a break from editing the first one! Stephen King says once you’re done with a go through before editing take time away. He typically says to write something else during that time but you still come back with fresh eyes

1
Nikkie

Can’t disagree with him

1
BelyndaQuestion author

That’s what i thought! I liked that book

1

I’m sorry, being in constant pain is one of the worst things, it seriously gets in the way of everything!

1

Ya, people just assume that since it’s TMJ that just my jaw hurts. The pain spreads and causes killer headaches and at times makes it super hard to think. It’s not fun at all.

I think that it does. Writing on any level. Marissa Meyers would count her book Heartless as a fanfiction.

1
LeAnn

Lol my stupid phone ugh, I hate autocorrect. I didn’t know she considered heartless fanfiction. Interesting.

0
BelyndaQuestion author

Yeah. She considers Cinder to be fairytale fanfiction as well. At least she’s quoted as having said that. I mean, fanfiction is great!!!

I love it! I haven’t wrote anything in awhile, but it’s my favorite pastime

I have heard that her TOG is more for a young audience. I have Not read TOG. I do have the first 3 in ACOTAR but haven’t started yet. I have heard ACOTAR is more for adults thou. Maybe why you have those feeling as her growing as an author

1
Reply
BelyndaQuestion author

I wasn’t talking so much about the content as the style. Like ones farther into the series of TOG have a feeling like she’s grown as well. Which is something a writer wants to do, is grow in their writing style with each book.

Well, so far I have written one comedy/pop culture/superhero story that is up on http://acidlogic.com/ and a few that count as psychological thriller or horror depending on your perspective. I have been reading a lot of HP Lovecraft lately which might explain that 🙂

Well, I’m 77 years old and I guess these books have been perking most of my life while I had to be working and not writing. But I’ve been retired now (aside from some freelance, temp and part-time jobs) for over 20 years, so that’s when these books were written.

0
Michelle

Do you have an author page or website for your books?

0

Yes, I do. “http://darlingbooks.com/” And there is also my Author page on Amazon. Thanks for asking.

BelyndaQuestion author

What is juvenile fantasy? Never heard of that classification.

0
Harriet

I guess it would equate today to children’s fantasy — I wrote it and published it online something like 20 years ago, and genres were different then. It’s too young for Middle Grade so I guess it’s Children’s. But it’s a fun read about “Triggams,” which are odd-looking creatures from another dimension.

I write short fiction and novels. At the moment I’m finishing my degree in Creative and Professional Writing and the moment I’m done, I’m going to be editing my first novel instead of writing about writing haha FINALLY.

Even great writers such as n.sparks and s.king got criticised by fools so don’t be, just ignore them for you are better than them.

1
BelyndaQuestion author

You just have to find the person for your book!!

1
Louise

Everyone is subject to criticism. Don’t forget, JK Rowling’s Harry Potter series was refused by 11 editors before being accepted by Bloomsbury. I think they regret it now it’s that popular. Just because they are editors doesn’t mean they are the best. 😉

It’s not very far along, but it’s a romance novel where the 2 have a short but intense relationship and then she does something (still thinking what exactly) that makes him walk away. 10yrs later she seeks him out because she still hasn’t forgiven herself for what she did. I’m still thinking of a way to make it different from so many other books. The plot line is completely subpar and needs lots of work/development.

Tell yourself there is NO such thing as writer’s block. Tell yourself that’s an inner critic stopping you writing because you’re fearful the writing will be crap. Tell yourself it’s good to write crap. Lots of crap. I mean, really lots of crap. Because crap can be molded into non-crap and non-crap into decent writing. You can only mold nothing into nothing. No one releases the first draft. No one (I hope). That is just for you and no one else. That’s what you say to writer’s block.

Blogspot on G+ is good site with no costs. Do not hesitate, writing can be a very joyful craft if you love it. It keaps my spirit light and my soul at peace. I literally pine when I am unable to write. Don’t push yourself Let it flow. Even if you dont even understand the gibberish, keep writing and dooddling. Don’t stop. Keep writing odd litle things which come to you. Before long your heart will begin to tell you what to write as mine does. I just trassnslate the words my heart gives me. A very great joy.
