I started with a goal of 400 & then changed it to 600. Since the Christmas movies have been on TV I’ve been enjoying them. Hence the reason I haven’t surpassed 600!

Also bravo on that many!

Libby I am just curious how you have been able to read 600 books in 1 year? There are 365 days in a year.. that means you would have to read 1.64 books every single day of the year. Not being rude just honestly curious how that is possible?

0
Dawn

Libby, I’m curious also. How did you manage to read 600 books in one year? And did you enjoy them?

0
Libby

I’m disabled! Not everyone is healthy & able to work everyday.
YES, I enjoy every book I read or I stop reading it!
Oh, and I haven’t read anything since midNovember. Been watching Christmas movies.

Finishing #39 hopefully today. Which raises my reading goal next year to 35 from 30.

2014 put 40 but read 50, 2015 put 50 but read 54, 2016 put 50 but read 60 so this year I put 60 but I am looking to have 110 by end of the year (Netgalley has really helped that this year). Thinking to put it up to 75 for next year.

If I finish the book I’m currently reading, I will have read 13 books in the 5 months I have had Goodreads. I’ve read more than that this year, but I didn’t keep track until August. My goal for 2018 is to read 50 books (mostly ones I own)!??

30 books read. 30 for next year too. I’m in awe of the folks that can read 100 or more books a year. Job, home, family takes up a lot of time. I’m lucky I can do 30…and get some sleep! Happy 2018 all! May it be a great reading year for us all.

The more I do these challenges, I’ve finally realized it is not about the quantity but more about the quality for me. So I’m challenging myself to a mere 25 books in 2018 which I have no doubt I will surpass in no time. I want to read a few books that I normally would not choose. Maybe some autobiographies or historical fiction. We’ll see lol.

This year I read 100. Next year I have set a goal for 52 because I have several 1000 plus page books on the list and I want at least 12 to be what would be considered challenging classics such as Anna Karenina. I still very much enjoy what I read. If I don’t, I put it down and move to the next. ?

My goal was 20, but I hit 27. I’ve been reading “The Wheel of Time” series by Robert Jordan and the average 950 pages each. Almost half way through book 6 with 8 books left to go. Four more years to retirement and then I can get to more of the 11,000 books in my basement.

My book goal was 150, I generally read slightly more than that. This has been the year of my worse reading slump Ever I am at 62, not beating myself up and have read some great books. I seem to be getting my book mo Jo back and am so glad. Reading g is such an important part of my life.

1

Meredith

I barely read 30 last year and before that I never really bothered counting books.

1
Judith

The main thing is to enjoy what you read. I try not to vet too hung up in the numbers game or I find myself reading thin books and missing out on some great fat ones.

0
James

I kind of base my goal on what I want to read in the coming year. I knew I was going to read some books that were the equivalent of 3 to 4 of the books I usually read. But in the end goals don’t really matter because I read what I want and don’t force myself to meet a certain goal.

What I’d love to know, from those who did 200+ books – how?? Did you read short books (like 150 pages)? or do you speed read? or both? or …. ? What is your secret?? 0_0

1

Shellie

I did a combination.I seem mostly drawn to the BIG books but enjoyed a ton of short fun books this year like Advice from 80-year-old self, Hilarious!!! I don’t speed read but have been known to read a large book in a day if I’m really into it. I take books with me to Dr and dental appointments anywhere I know Ill be waiting and read there.

2
Sheryl

I also did both. Anytime I got in a slump I did graphic novels which I can usually read in a few hours. But I also read a bunch of 700+ page books. And classics which take me forever. My big one for classics was crime and punishment and it was killer lol

1
Cyrene

I’ll hit 185 probably, but I burn out once in awhile and need to take a week off here and there – or it could have been more. But it’s my job to read, but I can read a 225-300 page book in a day, easy. So they add up. I don’t “speed read,” I just read. 🙂 If they are slow starters, those I may drag my feet and take a couple days to read.
