I started with a goal of 400 & then changed it to 600. Since the Christmas movies have been on TV I’ve been enjoying them. Hence the reason I haven’t surpassed 600!
Libby I am just curious how you have been able to read 600 books in 1 year? There are 365 days in a year.. that means you would have to read 1.64 books every single day of the year. Not being rude just honestly curious how that is possible?
I’m disabled! Not everyone is healthy & able to work everyday. YES, I enjoy every book I read or I stop reading it! Oh, and I haven’t read anything since midNovember. Been watching Christmas movies.
2014 put 40 but read 50, 2015 put 50 but read 54, 2016 put 50 but read 60 so this year I put 60 but I am looking to have 110 by end of the year (Netgalley has really helped that this year). Thinking to put it up to 75 for next year.
If I finish the book I’m currently reading, I will have read 13 books in the 5 months I have had Goodreads. I’ve read more than that this year, but I didn’t keep track until August. My goal for 2018 is to read 50 books (mostly ones I own)!??
30 books read. 30 for next year too. I’m in awe of the folks that can read 100 or more books a year. Job, home, family takes up a lot of time. I’m lucky I can do 30…and get some sleep! Happy 2018 all! May it be a great reading year for us all.
The more I do these challenges, I’ve finally realized it is not about the quantity but more about the quality for me. So I’m challenging myself to a mere 25 books in 2018 which I have no doubt I will surpass in no time. I want to read a few books that I normally would not choose. Maybe some autobiographies or historical fiction. We’ll see lol.
My goal for 2018 is to write a sequel to my debut historical novel about old Hawaii (which took me 12 years, 20 days from start to publication) so you guys will have something else to read.
I read 26 this year. I used to read more, but as a writer myself, I have to split my time between writing and reading (oh, and taking care of my family!). I might try for 30 next year.
This year I read 100. Next year I have set a goal for 52 because I have several 1000 plus page books on the list and I want at least 12 to be what would be considered challenging classics such as Anna Karenina. I still very much enjoy what I read. If I don’t, I put it down and move to the next. ?
My goal was 20, but I hit 27. I’ve been reading “The Wheel of Time” series by Robert Jordan and the average 950 pages each. Almost half way through book 6 with 8 books left to go. Four more years to retirement and then I can get to more of the 11,000 books in my basement.
My book goal was 150, I generally read slightly more than that. This has been the year of my worse reading slump Ever I am at 62, not beating myself up and have read some great books. I seem to be getting my book mo Jo back and am so glad. Reading g is such an important part of my life.
The main thing is to enjoy what you read. I try not to vet too hung up in the numbers game or I find myself reading thin books and missing out on some great fat ones.
I kind of base my goal on what I want to read in the coming year. I knew I was going to read some books that were the equivalent of 3 to 4 of the books I usually read. But in the end goals don’t really matter because I read what I want and don’t force myself to meet a certain goal.
i think I read about 200 or 250 books this year, more than most years. Have no goals for numbers for next year other than to use my time well and to read good books.
My goal was 150 and I have read 169 so far. I think my 2018 goal will be 200 but I just took on federal employment so I don’t think I’ll have as much time to read
So far I’ve read 88. I set my goal at 50 this year because I’m still in Grad School and I knew it would slow me down. I only have 1 semester left, so next year I’ll up it to 60 and hope to get to 100 (as in past years).
I don’t have a goal….I just search for books I am really interested in reading…if I beat my number from the year before…awesome…but if not…it’s ok….I just keep reading…?
Originally it was 12 (I’m a slow reader, been a long time since I’ve done a year long challenge, so figured 1 book per month was a good start). I hit 12 books by the start of March, so changed it to 15 … hit 15, so changed to 17 …. then 19 …. then 21…. then 24 ….. then 27. At that point I said “screw it”, stayed at 27 and just went on to see how far I could go. I’m finishing up 2 books that *should* be done by December 31st.
What I’d love to know, from those who did 200+ books – how?? Did you read short books (like 150 pages)? or do you speed read? or both? or …. ? What is your secret?? 0_0
I did a combination.I seem mostly drawn to the BIG books but enjoyed a ton of short fun books this year like Advice from 80-year-old self, Hilarious!!! I don’t speed read but have been known to read a large book in a day if I’m really into it. I take books with me to Dr and dental appointments anywhere I know Ill be waiting and read there.
I also did both. Anytime I got in a slump I did graphic novels which I can usually read in a few hours. But I also read a bunch of 700+ page books. And classics which take me forever. My big one for classics was crime and punishment and it was killer lol
I’ll hit 185 probably, but I burn out once in awhile and need to take a week off here and there – or it could have been more. But it’s my job to read, but I can read a 225-300 page book in a day, easy. So they add up. I don’t “speed read,” I just read. 🙂 If they are slow starters, those I may drag my feet and take a couple days to read.
Glad you’re better now. And doesn’t really matter how much you read so long as you read. That’s what I tell my husband who says how can you possibly read so many books in a year LOL I can read and absorb them with no problem. He can’t do that.
54 so far, hoping to finish my current book so to round it off to 55, my goal was originally 40 books but bumped it up twice to 45 then 50 so I’m happy with that 🙂
Have read 160 but my goal was 150. Don’t think I’ll be setting one next year.
240, but I plan to write more this year so I’m going with 150.
My goal was 60, but I’m on 95. Next year’s goal is 100.
My goal was 60 but since I retired I can read more – so I am at 69 so far….plan to hit 70 by the New Year!
My goal is to read more. My youngest will be older which will give me more me time
I started with a goal of 400 & then changed it to 600. Since the Christmas movies have been on TV I’ve been enjoying them. Hence the reason I haven’t surpassed 600!
????????
What app do you use to track? Love this idea!
http://goodreads.com/
Also bravo on that many!
Libby I am just curious how you have been able to read 600 books in 1 year? There are 365 days in a year.. that means you would have to read 1.64 books every single day of the year. Not being rude just honestly curious how that is possible?
Libby, I’m curious also. How did you manage to read 600 books in one year? And did you enjoy them?
I’m disabled! Not everyone is healthy & able to work everyday.
YES, I enjoy every book I read or I stop reading it!
Oh, and I haven’t read anything since midNovember. Been watching Christmas movies.
42 my goal was 40. Keeping my goal at 40 for 2018 it seems to fit my schedule
Finishing #39 hopefully today. Which raises my reading goal next year to 35 from 30.
2014 put 40 but read 50, 2015 put 50 but read 54, 2016 put 50 but read 60 so this year I put 60 but I am looking to have 110 by end of the year (Netgalley has really helped that this year). Thinking to put it up to 75 for next year.

My goal for this year was 30, and I’ve read 35. Next year I want to shoot for 100.
30 books read. 30 for next year too. I’m in awe of the folks that can read 100 or more books a year. Job, home, family takes up a lot of time. I’m lucky I can do 30…and get some sleep! Happy 2018 all! May it be a great reading year for us all.
None, I wrote one. Now I’m writing the third.
The more I do these challenges, I’ve finally realized it is not about the quantity but more about the quality for me. So I’m challenging myself to a mere 25 books in 2018 which I have no doubt I will surpass in no time. I want to read a few books that I normally would not choose. Goal this year was 100.
That’s my plan for this year too.
My goal for 2018 is to write a sequel to my debut historical novel about old Hawaii (which took me 12 years, 20 days from start to publication) so you guys will have something else to read.
I’ve read 105 so far, but may finish two more
83 so far. My reading goal for this year was 75. Don’t know about next year, yet. Hoping to read as many as I did this year, but not sure.
I read 26 this year. I used to read more, but as a writer myself, I have to split my time between writing and reading (oh, and taking care of my family!). I might try for 30 next year.
I read 119. Goal was 104. Not sure about 2018. Gosh, if I put this much effort into exercise I would be one slim chic!
My goal was 100, I hit 114.
200 for 2018
This year I’ve read 127
I’m on my 155th read
I read 16 books this year and My for next year is to read 20 books by the end of next year
I have absolutely no idea, but plan on keeping track in 2018
I only read 6 this year, but my twin boys started school full time in Sept. So had more time to read x
Goal was 50. I read 52. I think I will make my goal for 2018 60
98…no goal..hope to reach 100..by new years. Maybe will set one for next yr..
I have read about 116
This year I’ve read 348 books. Next year I’m going much lower at 50 but I want to try for a few classics and biographies which is not my usual thing.
Wow!! And I thought reading 70 books in a year was a lot. I’m amazed at how much some of y’all have read. Job well done!
My goal is to enjoy what I read.
I can’t make goals for reading because I would feel pressured and that takes away much of the joy of reading…for me, anyway.
This year I read 100. Next year I have set a goal for 52 because I have several 1000 plus page books on the list and I want at least 12 to be what would be considered challenging classics such as Anna Karenina. I still very much enjoy what I read. If I don’t, I put it down and move to the next. ?
I’ve read 208 so far for 2017. My goal for 2018 will be 100 books. I plan to read bigger books for next year.
I’ve read 63/55 I’m shooting for 75 next year
I currently have 46 my goal was 40. I have not decided what I will set next year I probably will not decide that until like Dec 30.
50 so far. 50 more to go in 2018.
So far 33.. working on my 34th book
100
Started way more than I finished
I’ve read 69 and my goal is to read 52 next year. (I enjoy reading but want to pursue other things next year as well.)
30 ish I think, I had a bad year. My goal is 118 in 2018.
My goal was 50 and I made 50!!! I may end up finding 1 of the ones I’m reading now. We will see. But at least I met my goal so I’m happy with that ☺️
I hit my Goodreads challenge of 12 (I aimed way low) but I probably didn’t record even half of what I read.
Goal this year was 50, killed it with a massive 149. I could finish a few more before the year is out, we’ll see. My goal for 2018 is 70 books.
402
Wow.
Yeah I’m a speed reader if I work I usually only get one book read but on my off days I read two, three if I’m lucky
Goal was: 140. I’ve read: 184.
My goal was 20, but I hit 27. I’ve been reading “The Wheel of Time” series by Robert Jordan and the average 950 pages each. Almost half way through book 6 with 8 books left to go. Four more years to retirement and then I can get to more of the 11,000 books in my basement.
Far out! I want to live in your basement.
My book goal was 150, I generally read slightly more than that. This has been the year of my worse reading slump Ever I am at 62, not beating myself up and have read some great books. I seem to be getting my book mo Jo back and am so glad. Reading g is such an important part of my life.
I barely read 30 last year and before that I never really bothered counting books.
I didnt set a goal for they yr but I did log all I read on goodreads I read 48 this yr which is a lot for me but I have really got into it this year.
170
Wow
My goal was 40
I goal was 100 I reached 92
i think I read about 200 or 250 books this year, more than most years. Have no goals for numbers for next year other than to use my time well and to read good books.
I’ve read 147 this year. I don’t have a 2018 goal yet.
30
Next year 40+
73. Maybe goal for next year will be the same. This year was 50 .
Right now on number 69, my goal was 52. 2018 goal same as this year 52. A lot of large books and long series on my tbr list.
My goal was 70 and I’ve read 131 ?
103/100 might hit 105 by the end of the year.
My goal was 150 and I have read 169 so far. I think my 2018 goal will be 200 but I just took on federal employment so I don’t think I’ll have as much time to read
I don’t have a goal for 2018 yet…this year I’ve read 68/65..working on my 69th book
So far I’ve read 88. I set my goal at 50 this year because I’m still in Grad School and I knew it would slow me down. I only have 1 semester left, so next year I’ll up it to 60 and hope to get to 100 (as in past years).
118 out of 120 and I have over a week left. I think that is my level. Approx 10 books a month so 120 for 2018!
I am almost to my goal-100.
I read for leisure not for competition. So, I don’t keep up with how many books I read.
I read for leisure to, but I still like to know how many books I’ve read.
At my age, you keep track so you don’t try to read a book you’ve already read. I keep a spreadsheet.
I like rereading books. ?
I don’t have a goal, I read when I want to, but each to his own.?
I read 106 and I want to shoot for 100 again next year.
The number becomes irrelevant with non fiction. The question becomes how many did i research and understand
I don’t have a goal….I just search for books I am really interested in reading…if I beat my number from the year before…awesome…but if not…it’s ok….I just keep reading…?
This year I read over 200 thats where I stopped keeping track. I had set a goal of 150 just to see if I could do it. In 2018 who knows.
150
Originally it was 12 (I’m a slow reader, been a long time since I’ve done a year long challenge, so figured 1 book per month was a good start). I’ve read 156 books this year so far
As many as possible
52 so far. I’m thinking 60 for next year.
My total for this year was/is 50. Next year’s total is 104!
Reading goal possibly my whole bookshelf lol I wish and will try
131/150 I’m sticking with 150
I read 66 this year but didn’t find Goodreads or start until like may! So for 2018 I’m setting my goal to 100! ?
150
71
I was only able to read a few. I was in the hospital for quite a bit of the year. My goal for this year is 26
Glad you’re better now. And doesn’t really matter how much you read so long as you read. That’s what I tell my husband who says how can you possibly read so many books in a year LOL I can read and absorb them with no problem. He can’t do that.
So far 68.
182 – but I’ll probably finish at least 3 more this year.
54 so far, hoping to finish my current book so to round it off to 55, my goal was originally 40 books but bumped it up twice to 45 then 50 so I’m happy with that 🙂
99. hoping 100 in 2018
I’d like to read at least 75 books next year
50 books
I don’t know the total, but I read 2-4 books per week.
My goal was 40 but I only reached 18, so imma try 2 reach that 40 again.
235 :p I set my goal at 125. Underestimated myself!
Next year’s goal will be 200 🙂
61! Next year, like this year, I will aim for 50 because it’s a number I can easily attain. I don’t want to add stress to my life 😉
Wish there was a page goal setting for Goodreads. Goal was 52 (one a week). Read 119 so this year. Mostly audiobooks
probably read about 365 this year, as i usually go through at least a book a day…don’t set goals for this though
I got two read this year my goal for next year is 10
