This one is pretty old, it’s by Pearl S. Buck. The name of the book is Imperial Woman. It’s about the last Empress of China. Gives a look into the dialy life of a woman who goes from concubine to Empress and also the view of the changing relationship between China and Britain. I’ve read it tons of times.

Memoirs of a Geisha by Arthur Golden. The entire story is set in Japan and it’s one my best reads! Will definitely recommend it.

The geisha that inspired that novel released a memoir about her life as a geisha too!

It’s called Geisha, a Life by Mineko Iwasaki

Memoirs Of A Geisha by Arthur Golden for sure! I read it over 20 years ago and it’s still my favorite book and I still remember everything about that story! I have tried Amy Tan and Lisa See but didn’t like their writing as much although many do.

Image may contain: text that says 'Memoirs of a Geisha by Arthur Golden BOOK DESCRIPTION literary sensation and runaway bestseller, this brilliant debut novel presents with seamless authenticity and exquisite lyricism the true confessions of one of Japan's most celebrated geisha. In Memoirs of Geisha, we enter a world where appearances are paramount; where a girl's virginity auctioned to the highest bidder; where women are trained to beguile the most powerful men; and where love is scorned as illusion. It is a unique and triumphant work of fiction at once romantic, erotic, suspenseful - and completely unforgettable.'

Wild Swans was a good autobiography covering three generations, the author, her mother, and her grandmother. Good read.
