I read the first two, but couldn’t get passed the ‘male gaze’, so I didn’t continue with the series.

If it helps, that gets brought up as a weakness of his – and used against him – more than once in later books. And there are at least four extremely strong female characters with agency and depth with recurring roles.

Butcher got off to a bit of a rough start with the first couple books. There’s noticeable improvement as they go along.

I’ve read the first seven. I only stopped because I tend to burn myself out on things. I read too much too quickly. (I do plan to go back.) They are really good! The first few are not as strong as later ones when Butcher starts hitting his stride. The audiobooks are also well done if you have any interest in audiobooks.

@Kathleen I have started enjoying audios! And the first 7?! How big is this series?? ?

@Amanda I’m not an expert but I want to say at least 12-14? And it is still going, but Butcher hasn’t had one out for a few years due to life-things. He should have one out in the next couple of years.

Checked Wikipedia. 15. ?

@LR ugh gonna have to find those too! ?

Like the series itself, Marsters’ performance is a little underwhelming at first, but gets so much better the further you go. ♥

They are so, so, SO awesome.

The first book is a bit slow to build up, but they get SO MUCH BETTER.

He’s gone up against all kinds of vampires, werewolves, demons, Fae, gods, Outsiders, other wizards… And he’s smart enough to carry a .44 for the problems magic can’t solve. ?

@Chris that might be my favorite one so far

I read a great Harry Potter/Dresden Files crossover fanfic which made me go ahead and buy the first 8 books in the Dresden Files. So far I’ve only read book 1, but it was really good! It’s not my favorite genre, so I think people who enjoy gritty urban fantasy would enjoy it even more than I did.
