Hey so has anyone read the Dresden Files series (I think that’s the name). If so how are they? Worth a read??

I’ve read some of them, I like them.
Omg those books are amazing! Definitely read them. Jim Butcher is a wonderful writer.
@Courtney are they historical fiction?
No they aren’t
@Amanda Urban Fantasy, and they’re awesome!
thanks! I’ll be adding those to the TBR !
Poor Harry, everything happens to him.
I’ve heard good things! I’m waiting to get them from my library right now actually!
I read the first two, but couldn’t get passed the ‘male gaze’, so I didn’t continue with the series.
If it helps, that gets brought up as a weakness of his – and used against him – more than once in later books. And there are at least four extremely strong female characters with agency and depth with recurring roles.
Butcher got off to a bit of a rough start with the first couple books. There’s noticeable improvement as they go along.
@Chris loves those I think
@Laura yeah they’re his favorite series!
I’ve read the first seven. I only stopped because I tend to burn myself out on things. I read too much too quickly. (I do plan to go back.) They are really good! The first few are not as strong as later ones when Butcher starts hitting his stride. The audiobooks are also well done if you have any interest in audiobooks.
@Kathleen I have started enjoying audios! And the first 7?! How big is this series?? ?
@Amanda I’m not an expert but I want to say at least 12-14? And it is still going, but Butcher hasn’t had one out for a few years due to life-things. He should have one out in the next couple of years.
Checked Wikipedia. 15. ?
@Kathleen oh good I need another gigantic series to get addicted too ?
James Marsters reads them (Spike from Buffy) if that decides you. 😉
@Shaunesay oh it most definitely does! ? although it always trips me out when he doesn’t have an accent ?
I tried the first one years ago and couldn’t get into it. ?♀️
I just saw that James Marsters does the audio so looks like I’ll be doing that! ?
@Amanda he does the audio for some of the Shadowhunters books too!
@LR ugh gonna have to find those too! ?
Like the series itself, Marsters’ performance is a little underwhelming at first, but gets so much better the further you go. ♥
They are so, so, SO awesome.
The first book is a bit slow to build up, but they get SO MUCH BETTER.
He’s gone up against all kinds of vampires, werewolves, demons, Fae, gods, Outsiders, other wizards… And he’s smart enough to carry a .44 for the problems magic can’t solve. ?
They are really good. Action with a touch of humor!
My Husband really enjoys them
I only wish I could tell you about Sue. But that’s something I don’t wanna spoil.
Polka will never die!
@Chris that might be my favorite one so far
I read a great Harry Potter/Dresden Files crossover fanfic which made me go ahead and buy the first 8 books in the Dresden Files. So far I’ve only read book 1, but it was really good! It’s not my favorite genre, so I think people who enjoy gritty urban fantasy would enjoy it even more than I did.
Ok you guys have sold me! Thanks!! ?
