Saaaaaame! I’ve been picking up books and half finishing them. Nothing has really held my interest lately. Very frustrating. Hoping this goes away for all of us!
Yes it happened several times. I have also found that reading is crippling my neck. I have turned to audiobooks from the library, scribd, and occasionally audible. It has been a fantastic solution for me and cured my insomnia.
Yes. I went from reading around 17 books a month to only getting through 2 books in the month of October! Just recently got myself back into the swing of reading again this week!
I used to read a couple of books a week. In 2015 I had surgery and quit reading. It has only been the past few months that my interest has been renewed. I bought a new e-reader because I get too distracted by alerts on my iPad. I still have to consciously work at it and schedule time to read but it’s getting better.
I was for a year and a half ? I had just lost my father. One day while admiring the books Costco, which I did every week, I touched a book that felt different… I bought it, read it and felt alive again. It will come back. Don’t stop touching the books
I turn to podcasts at times when my attention span won’t focus on a book. The Moth (personal, true stories) is one of my all-time favorites. I listen to it on public radio, too (another alternative).
Yes. Sometimes after finishing a book/series that really clicks for me. For me, at least, that kind of drought can be solved by rereading an old favorite.
The worst was the drought I had during a family crisis. That time I just rode it out. I didn’t even have enough ability to concentrate on simple books I already knew. That one was tough.
Once. When I was pregnant with my twins. Could not concentrate. It was terribly boring without reading or watching TV. Hardest 7 months of my life. Then I was too tired and sleepy when they were newborn. But after a few months I started reading again like crazy after their bedtime. They are avid readers now, too.
Yes, but thankfully it doesn’t last long for me. To help, I re-read something light (and usually hilarious) like Jen’s books or Waiter Rant. Once my “brain re-sets” I’m good to go! Good luck to you!!
I had been a voracious reader since the first time I remember my mother reading to me when I was 3. So when I suddenly lost interest in 2014, it was like I’d lost an organ or arm or leg. I felt wobbly; however, try as I might, it was like I had lost my taste for reading and nothing, not even short articles appealed to me. Once I leaned into, as in accepted my disinterest I had less stress & frustration. It took about 2 years; however, I slowly started reading again…started out with Audiobooks…and now I’m back to being voracious!
Try a magazine? Sometimes after I finish a book (esp if I’m on a book hangover ?) a few days with a magazine with short articles, and lots of pictures and fluff is just what I need!
I go through periods where I slow down. Often I read so quickly that I find keeping that pace is hard. I think it’s natural to have varying interest even in things we love.
Yes. This has happened to me a few times. Don’t worry – it will come back. One thing that helps me is reading junk – like some book that is not my norm (fiction) and it helps. Sometimes I force myself to read for a certain amount of time. 10-30 mins it depends. The crazy rich Asians trilogy got me going with reading. Espc fiction. I went on to ‘when life gives you lululemons’ and now ‘the hate u give’ maybe you just need fluff. Or a book about another hobby you might have – art or something. Or maybe just take a break.
Yes. I’m writing research for grad school. I don’t want to read anything right now. I’m hoping the feeling passes quickly, but i’m doing audiobooks until it does.
Yes! I find that rereading an old favorite gets me back to reading.
Nope!? Actually I did, but it came back!
When I’m like that, I read something totally outside of what I normal read.
Yes
Yes, I have been trying to finish and interesting book for two months, so today I changed to a new book to try to get back into reading.
Saaaaaame! I’ve been picking up books and half finishing them. Nothing has really held my interest lately. Very frustrating. Hoping this goes away for all of us!
Yes. Usually takes the right book to fix it
Same. The struggle is so real sometimes.
Absolutely! I’ll go through phases of reading book after book then stop for months.
Yes! Every few months it seems!!
Yes! Currently in fact…have TONS of books and can’t get interested in any of them! ??
Yes, I usually read something outside of my typical genres and see 8f that helps.
Yes it happened several times. I have also found that reading is crippling my neck. I have turned to audiobooks from the library, scribd, and occasionally audible. It has been a fantastic solution for me and cured my insomnia.
Yes. I try audio books. And or a different genre
Yes. Too much good television to distract me.
Yep! Give it a few weeks and with the right book you’ll be back.
Yes! Give it a few weeks!
Yes!!! Same. It sux!
Oh yes, they suck. Good luck. I can normally jump back to reading with an old favorite
Yes I go through them once in awhile.
Yes. I went from reading around 17 books a month to only getting through 2 books in the month of October! Just recently got myself back into the swing of reading again this week!
All the time ?
Yup! Audiobooks, magazines, and podcasts. You WILL want to return to the printed word soon. Good luck!
Yeah, this totally happens to me. I just hang tight and eventually the urge to read any and everything returns ☺️
Yes, right now.
I’m in a slump right now. Went to my TBR bookcase, and couldn’t make a decision. Too many choices. So I’m reading back issues of The New Yorker.
Usually when it happens (now!) I start Harry Potter again ?
Def. I’ve only read two books this year.
Yup!
After I read a great book I’m slow to start another!
Yes it’s called I went through nursing school
@Amanda same but mine is graduate school.
Yup. I find other things I like to do. Eventually it comes back. I find I’m burnt out. Podcasts help. ?
Haven’t lost interest, just so slow with my reading.
Yes, regularly. I go binge watch TV for a while (like Handmaid’s Tale this past summer). Eventually, I go back to reading.
I’m in one now…hoping it goes away soon!
Daily. Usually with “assigned” reading. ?
Occasionally, try reading something that brings you joy; makes you laugh.
Oh yes, same here. But I tend to get hooked on something else like podcast, or new music, or binge watching something on Netflix.
In a rut right now.
Listen to podcasts!
I’m a podcast addict. I don’t have enough time to listen all of the good stuff out there…and I have a lot of free time ?
Yes I think I’ve been in one for a couple – few months. ?
I used to read a couple of books a week. In 2015 I had surgery and quit reading. It has only been the past few months that my interest has been renewed. I bought a new e-reader because I get too distracted by alerts on my iPad. I still have to consciously work at it and schedule time to read but it’s getting better.
Yes!!! I’ve been in one for almost 3 weeks and I don’t know why!
I was for a year and a half ? I had just lost my father. One day while admiring the books Costco, which I did every week, I touched a book that felt different… I bought it, read it and felt alive again. It will come back. Don’t stop touching the books
Try magazines and short stories for a bit.

Yes, I go through phases where I’m just not focused on reading and sticking with a novel. But it comes back and I have a good list to get through!!
Me too! I’ve been really busy with work this fall (I’m a kindergarten teacher) and just cannot focus! I have this huge TBR pile on my nightstand too?
Currently ?♀️. I started a new (emotionally draining) job and just haven’t had the energy.
Yes, definitely, but it never lasts… a book will come along that will reignite the passion. I hope that happens for you soon… ?
I cant sleep without reading first.
Yes when I can’t concentrate

I went through a really long period like that after I broke my leg. For a few years.
Yes, but thankfully it doesn’t last long for me. To help, I re-read something light (and usually hilarious) like Jen’s books or Waiter Rant. Once my “brain re-sets” I’m good to go! Good luck to you!!

Yikes! Maybe spend an afternoon in a used bookstore.
All the time. It’s worst when I have a million great options and end up sending them all back to the library unopened.
I’ve got books going to thrift stores/charity shops unread. I end up buying them back again !
Try a magazine? Sometimes after I finish a book (esp if I’m on a book hangover ?) a few days with a magazine with short articles, and lots of pictures and fluff is just what I need!
I have a couple of books I reread when that happens to me. For some reason that jump starts me and I’m fine again.
I go through periods where I slow down. Often I read so quickly that I find keeping that pace is hard. I think it’s natural to have varying interest even in things we love.
I do sometimes. I’m kind of blah about everything right now.
Me too
Maybe it’s the time of year? We’re all occupied with holiday and family plans, I wonder if that’s what’s throwing off our reading game.
My reading productivity drops 90% once summer’s over. I blow through a book/day in the sun and now it takes me two weeks.
True!!! Seasonal Book Depression!

I never completely stop, just slow down.
I’m a teacher and I went back to school so between reading papers and reading for school I haven’t read anything for fun in ages!
I’m in a slump now too. I began bingeing on a tv shows lately
Tomorrow I’m going to pick up one of my history books (a biography) and see if that can break my slump.
Yes! I go to the library with my little girl, she picks some out and so do I. I end up returning them unread ?.
