Oh yes. Sometimes I’m just not in the mood for that genre or writing style and put it away for another time. If it’s just because I strongly dislike the book I just give it away.

Bianca

@Beth I do the same thing. If there’s a book I don’t like I give it away.

Often. If a book doesn’t spark my interest in 100 pages I quit. And I will not try again, either. I donate it to one of the local thrift shops.

@Maria the library or good Will takes my donations. Of I’ll even give it to my college library. Sometimes I give away books I did like but know I’ll never read again but mostly I give away books I don’t like or ended up not reading.

Yep. I read for enjoyment & not every story will be one for me. If I start a book & don’t like it, I stop and move on.

As a rule to myself I don’t usually quit a book. It’s happened twice. Girl on a Train, End of Watch. I usually try to get through it.

I’ve been doing this a lot lately. I have had a hard time getting a few pages in before giving up. Some of it may be that I am just not into that particular genre or story line at the moment. I make a note so that I can try again later. Some have been ones I refuse to give time to. As a former reading teacher, I practice what I told my kids – it is okay to not like or book or finish it. There are better ones out there. You just have to find it.

Yes. Sometimes I try later, but if I just can’t get into it, I put it away. Too many books, too little time! I stop reading ones I don’t like the older I get…

One of the books I couldn’t get into I traded at a “little library”. The book I traded for lead me to purchase & read the rest of that series.

Even though I may not like every book I begin, I never stop reading once I start. I usually end up liking the book much more than I thought.

Stephen King, in his book “On Writing” suggest that you give a book 100 pages before putting it down. I agree with that and it has worked for me.
