Have you ever started a book and realized you weren’t in to it and had to put it down?

Have you ever started a book and realized you weren’t in to it and had to put it down?
Yes! Most of the times if i dont finish it, i put it back on my bookshelf. I try again later when the mood strikes and if i still dont finish i donate to my local library
I feel bad because I chose this book for my book club and im not going to read it. They can if they want but I have chosen not to. Its called bad girls dont die.
@Elizabeth ive seen that book. Ive never read it though. Didnt sound intresting to me.
Yes
Yes
Yes I have. Sometimes I think I will try it again later and then there have been times, nope not for me.
Often
Many times lol
Sometimes it happens….life is too short to force a book you’re not into! Many more good books out there?
Yea I know I just hope they understand which I know they will.
Oh yes. Sometimes I’m just not in the mood for that genre or writing style and put it away for another time. If it’s just because I strongly dislike the book I just give it away.
@Beth I do the same thing. If there’s a book I don’t like I give it away.
Of course. Some books are not for me.
Yes
Many times
I’ve started to learn that this is ok. So yes I have a few times
Many times. I give it 3 chapters or 50 pages and I walk away if nothing has sparked my interest.
Of course
Yes but rarely 🙂
Often. If a book doesn’t spark my interest in 100 pages I quit. And I will not try again, either. I donate it to one of the local thrift shops.
@Maria the library or good Will takes my donations. Of I’ll even give it to my college library. Sometimes I give away books I did like but know I’ll never read again but mostly I give away books I don’t like or ended up not reading.
2
Did that with Crazy Rich Asians.
Yes read half the book realized it wasn’t my kind of book
Absolutely. If it isn’t giving you joy, or at least enlightenment, why bother? There are way too many books to choose from.
All the time. Life is to short to read a book I cannot relate to.
Yep. I read for enjoyment & not every story will be one for me. If I start a book & don’t like it, I stop and move on.
Once or twice, I’m sure.
I have had that with many books.
too many times
Sure. On Goodreads I have a DNF shelf.
@Rock what does dnf stand for?
@Diana, did not finish?
Firestarter by Stephen king
Some of his can be a bit slow and weird to start with. It is no my favourite to be honest lol
Yup
Yup. Not very often but if the beginning is not as exciting as I think it wouldve been, I dont read it
A few times. Doesn’t happen to me often but if I have to keep struggling, it is not worth it 🙁
Yes
Twice.
Many times. I refuse to get absorbed in a book I can’t get absorbed into!
I painfully HAVE to finish even the worst book. I do not know why. Help me.
As a rule to myself I don’t usually quit a book. It’s happened twice. Girl on a Train, End of Watch. I usually try to get through it.
I’ve been doing this a lot lately. I have had a hard time getting a few pages in before giving up. Some of it may be that I am just not into that particular genre or story line at the moment. I make a note so that I can try again later. Some have been ones I refuse to give time to. As a former reading teacher, I practice what I told my kids – it is okay to not like or book or finish it. There are better ones out there. You just have to find it.
Yes. Sometimes I try later, but if I just can’t get into it, I put it away. Too many books, too little time! I stop reading ones I don’t like the older I get…
One of the books I couldn’t get into I traded at a “little library”. The book I traded for lead me to purchase & read the rest of that series.
I am having this issue right now with Joe Hill’s NOs4A2. I have liked other Joe Hill books but can’t get into this one. I am currently reading something else while deciding whether to finish.
Lots of times. Sometimes it just isn’t the right time.
Don’t feel bad. Life’s to short and there are to many good books waiting!
Even though I may not like every book I begin, I never stop reading once I start. I usually end up liking the book much more than I thought.
All the time. It either may not be what im in the mood for or different than what I was expecting. Im trying not to finish a book just cause anymore
Yes lots of times sometimes I end up going back to it other times I if I can’t even get into the book I don’t even read it at all and I’ve given a few books that I can’t get into
Of course hasn’t everyone?
Too many good books to read something I don’t like
Yes, always makes me sad
I do but always wonder if the book would have gotten better
Yes
Yes. I was reading a Star Trek novel about Harry Mudd and there were too many androids to keep straight.
Yes! Two William Faulkner books and Dante’s Inferno. I just couldn’t.
Yep!! Just did that last nite. Am looking for something better!
Yep quite often – and I get so dosapppinted that I can’t finish the book that I delete it off my list on good reads like it never happened lol
Lots, I give it 50 pages
Many times
Quite often!!
Yes, life is too short to muddle thru a bad book!!!!
Stephen King, in his book “On Writing” suggest that you give a book 100 pages before putting it down. I agree with that and it has worked for me.
lots of times. one i recently started.
Yes and I always feels so guilty for not finishing it 🙁
several times.if i can’t get passed the first 30 pages, forget it.
yes, sad but true.
