Sometimes they could be interesting. For instance, Dan Brown’s got like a dozen people to do research for him. No wonder he sounds so smart.
Yes. Sometimes clever authors tuck away important story information in there (thinking specifically of Joe Hill’s The Fireman).
A list of names? maybe, if short. Much more likely if the reasons for the acknowledgements are given along with the names.
