I read it many years ago. It was hard going but I think I learned from it and am glad I did read it. I have thought about rereading it after all these years to see how far I’ve come. The same with Native Son.

If you’re referring to Ralph Ellison’s book, I have. It’s on many lists of best novels of the 20th century, but none of my students ever liked it at all. I finally decided the mix of realism and fantasy was so unsettling, probably particularly because racial topics are difficult enough to talk about without having to broker exaggeration and/or unreliability from the narrator.

I did… and it took me longer than usual to finish it.. he kept saying “i am invisible” we know!! The title already say so (H.G. Wells)
