Is it about a vigilante? I’ve heard conflicting takes on it

0
Becky

Yes, she is a vigilante of sorts, being a hacker to collect information to solve a crime. She teams up, but also does things on her own for revenge. She is a unique character, quite troubled. The books are a good read.

The first three were great I really despised the last two. David Lagercrantz turned the series into a cheap Dan Brown esc thriller and it really infuriated me…. definitely a clear lack of quality at this point. I highly recommend the first three though. Lizabeth Salender is one of my favorite fictional characters.

I couldn’t get into them. I thought the writing was…difficult.

2
Reply
Annette

Maybe because they were translated into English ? I kept thinking that it was a ll a bit stilted !

0
Margaret

i think the whole backstory is intriguing. Rumors that Stieg’s partner did most of the writing, which she implied and then denied. The fact that the English version was meant for film only so done quickly. I agree the writing is stilted but it’s more than that. I had a hard time actually liking the characters and the plot devices were poorly constructed. I think the films are better.

2
Annette

I’ve never seen the films, so can’t comment but yes, you’re right, the characters were very … undimensional is the word I want to use (if it even is a word !).

I loved the trilogy. I found that in the first book the first ?150 pages is all background story. I felt quite frustrated with it but only persisted because a friend recommended it and told me they were fabulous. So I did and once past that turning point could not put them down. Bought the 2nd book before I finished the first and then the 3rd book before finishing the 2nd. So I read the 3 consecutively. ?

Loved them all – even the ones by a different author (I believe that author finished the 3rd or 4th after the original author died?) . If you read them all some questions are answered. It was one of those times I had a very hard time finding something to read after finishing the first 3 because everything else was a let down.

You have to power through those first 100 pages, it’s like you need to read it to understand the subsequent story but I agree it was slow. After that though is one of the most thrilling/intense books I’ve ever read. Great mystery!

i couldn’t finish the 3rd one, read the first two in a weak and was just burned out by the third one, with that and high school. sort of vigilante, it is more sort of mystery. the main guy is a writer and investigates from that point of view. mostly a mystery but the characters are so well thought out. at no point did any of the characters seemed to be 2 dimensional. also the author died after the 3rd and didn’t finish the series so a new writer is finishing the 10 book series but I don’t know if they are good

I tried one of the later books and couldn’t get as into them as the original trilogy. I didn’t hate it, but it didn’t feel like it was in the same league.

The first is a slow burner to begin with – Larsson isn’t keen on show don’t tell and a lot of coffee drinking – but Salander is a fabulous character and avoids the cliches. It gets dark quickly in the final parts. Great trilogy overall.
