I read them up to N, then got tired of same thing, like it was no longer a mystery. That’s just me.

@Diana I know what you mean. Sometimes with series, I take breaks with other books. Yes, it interrupts the flow and I usually have to refresh my memory a bit, but I do it all the time to avoid burnout of the same type subjects. That being said Love Sue Grafton! ❤

I would read in order – so sad that they didn’t get to finish…

I’ve read them. Like the others said they start to drag after N and the story line just repeats. Reading in order will make more sense as far as the characters and their lives but it really doesn’t matter as far as the mystery.

I have read all of them. It’s my opinion that you should read them in order. They are good, quick reads.

I read them all in order. It is better that way because there is an underlying personal story that is easier to follow if you read in order. However, each book tells its own story so it is not necessary.

I think in order, not a continuous story but makes more sense

Definitely. Her life changes, she grows older, ppl come and go, and even technology changes. These really are meant to be read chronologically.

My husband and I are in the process of reading her alphabet series. We have listened in order and there is character development with the recurring characters. You wouldn’t have to read in order but I think it adds to the enjoyment of the series. We are enjoying them!!

I get that you’re supposed to read them in order, but what kind of genre does she write. Romance?? Mystery? Historical??

1

Margaret

@Sherry the alphabet series is light mystery, but I heard she died before completing the series. Maybe like Dick Francis, someone might be familiar with her style and finish the series.

Sherry

K thanks

@Margaret she died after Y. She had half written Z but didn’t want a ghost writer to finish it apparently. Lol i get told off all the time at work by customers because she didn’t finish it.

I’ve read through P is for Peril and have loved every book in the series. I have read them in order and by doing so, have enjoyed the development of Kinsey’s personality & her life. She feels like an old friend now. If I had read them out of order, my relationship with Kinsey would feel disjointed.

Sue Grafton is one of my favorite authors and I too started with “A” is for Alibi. I find it easier to understand the character by starting with the beginning. You won’t be disappointed.

read many of them–she pretty much explains who the character is with reminders that there are no cell phones and many other electronics that we use everyday now, but did not do so when the character was first created. I don’t think they have to be read in order, but you will probably end up going back to earliest ones before moving too far along. she is a good read.

I’m on her last one now, Y. I would read them in order, they get much better as she moves through the alphabet. I’m sad to start the last book, Kinsey, the main character, has been part of my life for years now! Sue Grafton passed away, and I’ve read there are no plans for a Z, which is sad.

2

MichelleQuestion author

@Cynthia I understood she started z. Maybe someone will finish in her style.

1

Or z will be simply z-end.

1

Michelle Hudson That’s what I was hoping. Her character is so well developed I would think there would be a talented writer out there interested in finishing the series.
