I’ve read it a couple of times. Yes, there are some brutal realities Dave Pelzer endured, yet it is/was another’s reality…?

Do not read if you get emotional or have any past traumas. The series is brilliant but heartwrenching x

? only book (series) to make me cry like a baby (I rarely cry. Ever. For anything). It is the most heart wrenching work I’ve ever read! I loved every second of it. Well written, and full of over coming adversity! I’ve got all 3 books and I’ve read them more than once. He is an incredibly strong individual and these books will stick with me my whole life

Fast and easy read except I had to put it down every so often to control the sickening feeling in my gut – that is what made it a hard read. I have read all of his books. I agree, it is a story that will stay with you for the rest of your life.

I wouldn’t read it again, or any of a similar genre. I feel nothing but sympathy for Dave, but the books are too harrowing for me.

We had to read it for our Social Work degrees (my husband and I). It is intense and might be triggering for anyone with abuse or violence in their family history.

It is raw and shocking. You will be forever changed by this book. Child abuse is the most awful thing – I heard the author speak and everyone was brought to tears not by the sadness of his story but by what amazing obstacles he overcame to be the amazing man he is today.
Read it!
