Has anyone read A Child Called It? It was a suggested read from someone and just thought I’d see what ya’lls opinions were about it.

I couldn’t handle it. It’s a very sad book.
Such a sad book. It’s actually a series. A child called it is the first one.
A difficult read, harrowing! Stays with you for a very long time ?
I’ve tried and read more than I should have. I just can’t handle it.
I’ve read it a couple of times. Yes, there are some brutal realities Dave Pelzer endured, yet it is/was another’s reality…?
Yes very sad
Very sad story (i read the whole series), i can see why it would be too difficult for some people. I really enjoyed it and his story has stuck with me.
Yes. The most devastating book I have ever read but it was very good. I am sure I cried on every page of that book.
Do not read if you get emotional or have any past traumas. The series is brilliant but heartwrenching x
? only book (series) to make me cry like a baby (I rarely cry. Ever. For anything). It is the most heart wrenching work I’ve ever read! I loved every second of it. Well written, and full of over coming adversity! I’ve got all 3 books and I’ve read them more than once. He is an incredibly strong individual and these books will stick with me my whole life
Extremely sad because it is a real story of the authors life. The author went on to become an amazing man
Amazing but sad
I loved it. I can see why some people can’t read it, but it’s very good.
Thanks for all the great opinions. I appreciate everyone’s honest and sincere input.
It is very sad. I can’t believe parents can be so cruel!!!!
I cried myself to sleep while reading it. It was traumatizing and amazing all at the same time. It really stayed with me.
Fast and easy read except I had to put it down every so often to control the sickening feeling in my gut – that is what made it a hard read. I have read all of his books. I agree, it is a story that will stay with you for the rest of your life.
Yes I read it. I found it disturbing and sad.
Gut wrenching.
Heart breaking.
Amazing read!!
Very hard to read. Depressing. But I feel it’s important for everyone to read.
Very difficult material emotionally, but powerful book
Yes I just read ‘A child Called it’ , the sequel is ‘The Lost Boy’ and prequel is ‘A man called Dave’
You won’t put them down until they are finished!
One of his brothers Richard Peltzer has also written a couple of books, I’m yet to read those
Just put it on hold in Toronto 4 week wait.
I ugly cried
I own them all
It’s a good book but it is absolutely heartbreaking.
It’s really good. And very sad ?
It’s a good book, but keep a box of Kleenex close.
I read it about 15 years ago and still remember it vividly, very very sad but a captivating read which will stick with you
Get ready to cry lol
I found it morbid … not what I like to read.
It’s to sad. I listened to the audiobook 🙁
A book you’ll never forget, and since reading it I now have children of my own, don’t think I could read it again
My boys were only young when I read it, just wanted to hug them all the time after, I will not read books similar now x
@Jay same x
Yes, stuck in my head for so long after x
Yep I read it when it first came out, must be nearly 20 years ago. I remember it so well and I’d never read it again. It’s a disturbing read.
I wouldn’t read it again, or any of a similar genre. I feel nothing but sympathy for Dave, but the books are too harrowing for me.
Makes you hug your kids tighter and longer!
It’s heart breaking, I read it years ago and had to put it down several times to pull myself together
We had to read it for our Social Work degrees (my husband and I). It is intense and might be triggering for anyone with abuse or violence in their family history.
made me physically sick
So emotional
Great read. Hard on the heart
Oh my god yes. I read that book fifteen years ago, and it still breaks my heart thinking about what that boy went through. A truly emotional read.
That book is hard to read but so worth it. I can’t believe what he went through. It’s so heartbreaking ?
Yes but get tissues
I’ve read the first 2 but having a break before I start no 3 as its so emotional!!
A heart breaking story but so glad I read all the books he wrote.
Yes. Very sad.
Its a very sad brutal story about child abuse. So its a hard read. I think if you read it have a happy, feel good, or nostalgic book waiting afterwards.
^yes, this.
Very emotional can be quite hard to read but once I started I couldn’t put it down I had to know what happened
a tough read that I haven’t forgotten a word of and I read them all when they were first published. Not for the feint hearted or squeamish but it is a great story of survival.
Very sad and tough, but good.
Heartbreaking
It is a hard read but worth it hard to put down but very sad.
Very sad. Stays with you
I just finished it, very emotional. You just never imagine people doing evil things to a child! Definitely worth reading!
Very sad ????
It’s really painful
It is raw and shocking. You will be forever changed by this book. Child abuse is the most awful thing – I heard the author speak and everyone was brought to tears not by the sadness of his story but by what amazing obstacles he overcame to be the amazing man he is today.
Read it!
