They have a number of different levels. They have a super store which seems to be what everyone here so far is commenting about. They have a college bookstore leasing division which shares and swaps books back and forth with the super stores – so if you are in a college town you might want to check both of them to see all the books. They have a publishing division which used to and may still do regular books, especially the classics which are no longer under copyright so are more profitable for them, and does eBooks for their reader. They have a website which, the last time I looked, had sections for each of their sections.
The coffee shop part has a tea section and accessories if you know what you like. If you do not know what types of tea you like so you can tell by the stuff listed on the 30 bags can you can explore but it can get expensive.
Its kind of like Walmart vs. Target. vs. Kmart…Target (wold be B&N…fancy experience…but more expensive)…Walmart (would be Amazon…cheap but not as good an experience)….Kmart (no one cares about … 🙁 ) …i think people just liked the feel of B&N and if you want cheap you would just order online…so Boaders fell by the waste side..But its weird because everyone was sad when it went out of business
I know right! They had a large discount section it was great! and also Books a Million used to be largely discounted as well…now they are more like B&N with more expensive books 🙁 thats why i think Amazon is going to take over when they get brick and mortar stores
Me too! B&N is pretty and fancy but so one wants to pay $20/book. That’s why people just go for the experience..make a list… then order the book from amazon. I even pay for a membership at B&N but even that’s not worth it…you get coupons for an additional 10% here and there but that only really helps to bring the prices down to amazon prices… 🙁
It is pretty and fancy and I know right it is a lot of money for a couple of books … Yea a lot of people said they go there and look at books and buy them on Amazon … I haven’t really tried Amazon
I buy a lot on Amazon but I really prefer to buy a book and go out of the store with it. Where I lived 6 months ago, the B&N was about 25 miles away so I didn’t go often. But it was a special treat when I did go. Haven’t found one nearby where I live now, but I’m looking. The good thing about B&N is if you buy a membership you get 10% off on anything purchased.
Amazon works like a normal online store. you create a free account and order the books you want and they come to your address. If you want free shipping you can get AmazonPrime (its kind of expensive…but since i order so often its worth it for me). Also on amazon are different sellers so if you want it used you can purchase used as well….i too prefer to walk out of the store with the book in hand but when you save $9/book and its the same exact book and i can normally get it two days or so after ordering (because of prime) you can’t beat it!
its a great way to get books. Also BookOutlet is AWESOME! thats where i get most of my books!!! The books are new but deeply discounted! They also have sales sometimes that brinks the price down lower…
Still remember the first Barnes & Noble into which I waIked. It was a religious experience. It had two stories and an escalator! OMG! My favorite place to shop.
Definitely, that was my go to place–comfy couches and so many books, calendars, stationary, bookmarks then one by one stores closed around the area. That’s why I transitioned to an e-reader and Amazon–though does not replace a cozy bookstore.
Sweet hahah that’s good that they have cheap books there … I don’t really like paper books because they get ruined faster but i still get them sometimes hahah
All the time. However, on their website books are a lot cheaper. So I browse and write down books I want, go home and order on line. One book in the store was 15.00 and on line was 8.00 Plus I’m a member, so 10 percent off everything
Yep. I used to go there all the time. Even worked for them at one time. It was great! I spent a lot of my paycheck there! Plus…they have a Starbucks inside!❣️
It’s the last bastion of on-site book-buying in Idaho Falls. That is, other than a few rag-tag shelves in thrift stores with what is generally the sorriest selection since Samson chose Delilah.
Yes, they put all the mom and pop stores in my area out of business. Now they closed down All my books come from library, garage sales and thrift stores.
I pretty much lived there while I was in college.? Now that I’m married and have my little one, I’m lucky if I go 5x’s a year. I bought all my books through them for a while. I recently found a second hand bookstore that I love so I do most of my shopping there now.☺
I love being in a regular bookstore,( i do like used bookstores but find them frustrating to navigate.) sadly regular bookstore prices are generally to $$ for me.
Many times but now I usually just go there for coffee and just to look around. I will look at their discount section. I mostly buy my books now at Goodwill or other thrift stores
We also have ‘trader’ bookstores. You take books in already read and get credit towards new/used ones. Sometimes they are 10/$1.00 no WONDER I am always book more and bookshelves short ?
Barns & Nobles Is Very Expensive. I Go To Places Like Goodwill Or Buy Used Over Internet. I Went Into The Grocery Store By My House And Ask If I Put A Small Stand With Used Books For Free. The Only Thing Was You Had To Swap As Many As You Took. Thats Been 2 Yrs Ago And It Is Still There.
Yes and i have to go in with only cash
Yep
They take your cards.
Really ???
Barnes and Noble is a biiig store, yes, they do take cards, but if you want to have money leftover… cash is a limiting factor.
Hahahah thanks for letting me know
They have a number of different levels. They have a super store which seems to be what everyone here so far is commenting about. Yes
me too
You mean heaven on earth?
Yep, the perfect place to be. They even have food if you stay so long that you need nourishment.
The coffee shop part has a tea section and accessories if you know what you like. If you do not know what types of tea you like so you can tell by the stuff listed on the 30 bags can you can explore but it can get expensive.
Yep
Yes all the time
WHY DONT YOU HAVE NEIL DEGRASSE TYSONS book, Barnes and Nobles?
Only major bookstore we have here ?
We had Borders but most of you know what happened to that one.
I’d kill for a BAM or even a Half Price Books. Hell 2nd and Charles would be nice. Anything to get rid of B&N ?
They closed the one here down…LOVED going there
Awe well that sucks
They and many other book stores had financial problems since 2010 so some restructuring is not unexpected.
Yes
I’d rather get my books through thrift stores
Yep
Yep. I have a 20% off coupon burning in my pocket right now.
That’s awesome haha
yep! but i miss Boarders … they had better prices!
I seen some of the comets about Boarder … What happened to it???
Its kind of like Walmart vs. Target. vs. Kmart…Target (wold be B&N…fancy experience…but more expensive)…Walmart (would be Amazon…cheap but not as good an experience)….Kmart (no one cares about … 🙁 ) …i think people just liked the feel of B&N and if you want cheap you would just order online…so Boaders fell by the waste side..But its weird because everyone was sad when it went out of business
Ohhhhhhh OK … Well that sucks ???
I know right! They had a large discount section it was great! and also Books a Million used to be largely discounted as well…now they are more like B&N with more expensive books 🙁 thats why i think Amazon is going to take over when they get brick and mortar stores
I would have really liked that book store … I like getting lots of book so the cheap ones would have been better … I wish that it was still opened

How does Amazon even work??? … And I do like going out of stores with new books … I just don’t get to go to stores as much as i want to hahah
Amazon works like a normal online store. you create a free account and order the books you want and they come to your address. If you want free shipping you can get AmazonPrime (its kind of expensive…but since i order so often its worth it for me). Sweet ?? I will have to try Amazon and Amazon Prime out some time ??
its a great way to get books. Also BookOutlet is AWESOME! thats where i get most of my books!!! The books are new but deeply discounted! They also have sales sometimes that brinks the price down lower…
Really I will try out all three of theses book apps … Thank u for telling me about them hahah ???
Welcome 🙂
Still remember the first Barnes & Noble into which I waIked. It was a religious experience. It had two stories and an escalator! OMG! My favorite place to shop.
Wow that sounds awesome
Think “When Harry Met Sally” movie.
Yes I go in walk around for about an hour adding books to my wish list on Amazon. Then buy them off Amazon for way cheaper.
You might want to check prices at Barnes & Noble .com. Prices may Compare with Amazon. Also, you get free express shipping when you are a member
I’ve seen it in movies, but it doesn’t exist in France or Italy. But we have other big bookstores!
I’m glade u still have big book stores ???
Nope Chapters yes Coles all the time oh and I love to shop second hand book stores.
I think in England, their chain bookstore is Waterstones
Yes, we have Waterstones and Easons in Northern Ireland ??
Yes it’s my all time fave store. But it’s SO expensive there. #broke
It is expensive there … Which is why I can’t go a lot whenever I want to
Yes! One of the best ones, where I live.
Yes I love it
Yep
Literally was there 3 times this past weekend and surprisingly I didn’t buy a book
Definitely, that was my go to place–comfy couches and so many books, calendars, stationary, bookmarks then one by one stores closed around the area. That’s why I transitioned to an e-reader and Amazon–though does not replace a cozy bookstore.
i live 2 miles from one. is there something specific you want to know?
I just wanted to now if it is a good book store to go to haha
Yes but unfortunately we don’t have them in the UK 🙁
Sorry u guys don’t have it there
Thanks @Madison, thankfully we have another big bookstore named Warestones in the UK instead which is usually where I get my books.
Hahah that’s good that u have a big book store down there … Is it a good one ???
Yeah, they have quite a good selection. I was in there just yesterday and came home with a new book! 😀
Yay hahah getting new books are good … Is it expansive??
It can be depending on whether you’re buying hardback books or paperbacks – I tend to stick to paperbacks most of the time which are cheaper.
Sweet hahah that’s good that they have cheap books there … I don’t really like paper books because they get ruined faster but i still get them sometimes hahah
If I want a hardback book, I tend to wait until either around my birthday or Christmas instead.
That is a good ideal … I should start doing that hahah
I only buy hardbacks if I’m desperate for that particular book.
Are paper backs cheaper then hardback books?? … Like everywhere????
Certainly most places I think yes.
OK haha I will start looking at paperbacks first haha
One of my favorite store. Go there every chance I can.
Yes !!!
Yes, the best Barnes & Noble bookstore is in Corpus Cristi, Tx.
Yep! Watch because they can have some great sales for members but some books are overpriced and can be purchased cheaper as a Prime member on Amazon.
My Home away from home, love their bargain books!!!
Just the other day.. spent almost $28 on a book 🙂
Love it and almost live there
No because there aren’t any stores in the UK (as far as i’m aware)

Nope, we have Dymocks and QBD in Australia, however my fave is a local sole trader.
So u have good books stores to then haha ???
@Madison yes we do. Would be in serious trouble if we didn’t.
Hahaha yes
Agreed! I rarely shop in those book stores. So many other better and cheaper avenues available. 🙂
Wish i could. Looks so heavenly?. We dont have one so yah.
Its a nice place hahah but prices are high … And I’m sorry u don’t have one there … Do u have any big book stores???
We have a famous bookstore. But its not just books in it. There are school supplies. Office supplies. Random stuff. Gift wraps. Haha.
Then theres also 1 bookstore that thank god sells books like popular ones. But it used to be big.
That is so awesome hahaha … And that is a good thing
Yeah. It is. Haha
I have but they’re so over priced in store. You can purchase online and pick up in store and it’s cheaper most times.
I did, once. It was magical
Lots and lots of times! They do have some bargain books, usually as you come in the door, or on tables inside.
Yep, Minneapolis-St. Pauls – worst of cup of tea in the world ever! Makes McDonald’s tea look good!
All the time. However, on their website books are a lot cheaper. So I browse and write down books I want, go home and order on line. One book in the store was 15.00 and on line was 8.00
Plus I’m a member, so 10 percent off everything
That is so awesome ???
Yes! But it’s been a while since it’s pretty far away; but my grandma wants to go shopping there again when it gets closer to Christmas
None in Canada I dont think 🙁
I’m sorry u, might, don’t have one down there
Yep. I used to go there all the time. Even worked for them at one time. It was great! I spent a lot of my paycheck there! Plus…they have a Starbucks inside!❣️
Wow that’s so awesome … So it was good working there then
It was great! I think the employee discount was 20-30 percent. They’re open everyday until 11pm.
Wow really that is awesome ?????? … Wow
You are most welcome! ?
Hahahahaha ???
Yup. They put all the other major bookstores in my hometown out of business.
It’s the last bastion of on-site book-buying in Idaho Falls. That is, other than a few rag-tag shelves in thrift stores with what is generally the sorriest selection since Samson chose Delilah.
Once. There aren’t that much in Quebec. There is more of Renaud-Bray

No, but I have been to the bookstore, Barnes & Noble.
Buy books from local independent book store
Many times but now I usually just go there for coffee and just to look around. I will look at their discount section. I mostly buy my books now at Goodwill or other thrift stores

None in South Africa ?

Superb
We also have ‘trader’ bookstores. You take books in already read and get credit towards new/used ones. Sometimes they are 10/$1.00 no WONDER I am always book more and bookshelves short ?
My local bookstore does that too.
How many of your local bookstores give back to your community ? Just curious
@Paula not sure
Like barnes and noble but they are a little expensive
I love Barnes and Noble ❤️❤️❤️ go there whenever I can
Lots of times.

So it is going well with the book places u go to … That is awesome hahah ??
Not me, but perhaps some day. ?
