I hadn’t thought about children’s books, but I’d say it definitely counts! Lol ?

Whenever I can find the time

Ohm yes? I think 2 1/2 is my record (maybe 3 small ones)

That’s impressive! I’ve never read a whole book in a day, lol.

Thanks 🙂

I think finding the time is definitely a factor. I work part time, have two kitties that want my attention a lot of time, there’s always housework to be done. Haha it doesn’t end.

How fast I read a book also definitely depends on how much it’s grabbing my attention.

But I’m impressed by those that can read a whole one in a day. I haven’t ever done that with a book besides a children’s book. ?

@Nay unless I count children books I read to my son lol

Right, children’s books are the exception for me. I can probably read 30 of those in a day if I had time lol

I had a friend who claimed to read a novel in one evening every night. When I asked how she did it it turned out she skimmed through the books. She didn’t read every word like I do. It takes me a week to finish a novel just reading at bedtime.

NayQuestion author

Same here. I want to really experience it so I take my time.

1
Cassandra

I’ve been known to skim a page here and there if the author, in my opinion, gets long winded. But, what does your friend call skimming?

1
Gayle

@Cassandra reading less than half the words on each page.

1
Cassandra

On every page? Nah, I couldn’t do that.

Like who reads that fast?

1

Apparently a lot of people. Several have commented that they do. I’d literally have to do nothing else in a day lol

1
Sarah

same, and read two very short books.

Definitely! Way back when I was a teenager and dinosaurs roamed the earth. Back before kids and laundry and cooking dinner and grocery lists and scrubbing toilets and paying bills and something else . . .oh yeah–full-time job!

With writing novels I don’t get to read as much these days, I couldn’t get anywhere near that these days. I admire people who can speed read.

What kind of novels do you write, @Paul? I’m an editor and I like hearing about what people are writing about. ☺️

0
Paul

My last novel was, Disciples of Death, a terrorist thriller set in Europe and the Middle East. It was published by Black Opal Books and is available on Amazon Books. Take a look.

Very nice. I’ll check it out.

Yes! Two, but they were short. And yesterday I had left about half of the book I was reading and started and finished another one after finishing it.

Depends on book, mood, time and coffee.
In ideal situation, I would like to finish the whole series in a day (if the series consists of max 10 books?)

Yes. I read two on the flights to Halifax, N.S. (Shannon to Heathrow, Heathrow to Halifax. The books were Shrill by Lindy West and The Opposite of Everything by Joshilynn Jackson. I think the most I have read in a day would be three (shortish ones).

Alexandra

I have three kids… and I’m a stay at home mom. So I mean it’s not often I can do that.

1
NayQuestion author

I wouldn’t be able to read much if I had kids either.

1
Alexandra

@Nay I usually read when they go to bed. I don’t watch much tv. I mean I’m not anti tv by any means. They watch more than enough, but by the time they’re in bed, I choose books for me time over tv. Or if I go out for a pedicure or solo lunch, I bring my book

1
NayQuestion author

That’s awesome. I like how you make time for yourself doing something you enjoy. ?

1
Alexandra

You have to. It’s a necessity. Also why I cook 99% of the time.

1
Siobhán

Well, I read more these days since I am not working due to illness. Swings and roundabouts.

Let’s just say I don’t sleep a lot haha

1
NayQuestion author

I would imagine not. I fall asleep reading sometimes. But I also fall asleep watching tv, and at restaurant tables if it’s passed 10:30pm. No joke lol

0
Bonnie

Damn, that’s a skill! I try and read until I exhaust myself but that takes.. hours haha.

0
NayQuestion author

Yeah I can fall asleep almost anywhere. I could fall asleep right now at work but I still have five hours to go lol

0
Bonnie

Well I won’t get tired for another.. four? So I’ll trade ya!

probably for some manga … otherwise, it would take me a week to finish a book

1

NayQuestion author

Same here. I think the quickest one I read took four days.

1
NayQuestion author

And I was off work and reading it constantly.

1
Tram-anh

I read a lot while waiting for the subway/bus. As for books in eEglish, a little long. Mostly, I read in French

1
NayQuestion author

Are French books shorter than English books?

0
Tram-anh

not that much … if you ask for French author, I should say no. But as for the translation, it sounds a little bit longer (or way much longer). Just take Tom Clancy, 1 book in english = 2 books in french. And forget Ken Follett or Douglas Kennedy!!! Their books are pretty big!!

0
Reply
NayQuestion author

Aww. It’s okay, I take a long time too. I did read one book really fast recently, actually, and I was sad because I didn’t get much time with the characters. So that’s a benefit of reading slower. You really get to spend time with the book getting to know it. ?

0
Noelle

Thats a good way to think of it

1
Laura

Only if it’s really short or I have a LOT of time to read. A normal 300-400 page book takes me at least a week to read, sometimes longer depending on how hard it is for me to get alone time to read.

1
Reply
NayQuestion author

Same here.

1
Akil

it takes me about the same amount of time too. I’ve been devoting more time to it recently and I feel really good about that.

1
NayQuestion author

I have been devoting more time to reading, too, @Akil. Go us!

0

Yes but not often. I tend to read long books and I have to go to stupid work most days. Work really cuts into my reading time! ?

It’s usually something that happens when I’m on vacation.

1

Yes more things I have to do now.

1
Susan

Yes, when I was younger I easily read a paperback a day. Hardcovers would take two. I am busier now so it takes a couple of weeks to read a book.
