Guys I want to be apart of the Cassandra Clare world SO bad, but I’ve tried reading City of Bones a few different times and I just can’t get into it ?
Guys I want to be apart of the Cassandra Clare world SO bad, but I’ve tried reading City of Bones a few different times and I just can’t get into it ?
That first book was the hardest to get through in my opinion and lots of my reading friends agree. If you just try to power through city of bones you’ll find that it gets way more interesting and well written. Give it one more go ?
@Noor thank you! I’m going to give it another go after I finish the Ember in the Ashes series ☺️
Yeah I love her books but the TMI was the worst written series out of them all. Premise is great, last few books were an epic struggle.
@Michaela I’ve heard the other books get a lot better!
Yes, Infernal devices is much better. As is Dark Artifices. I had to skim the last three MI books just because I wanted to get through the series. But I love all her other ones.
Read the Infernal Devices first, it’s waaaays better
@Ranya can I read it first without missing something?
Harlye Thomas no you wouldn’t miss anything, it‘s chronologically first so no spoilers. I read it first
thank you for telling me ☺️
@Harlye you‘re welcome! Enjoy, it’s my all time favorite trilogy ♥️
i mean you don’t have to read them just because they’re popular. i have no interest and i’m fine with that lol
@Tori I know, I just see so many things on it and the world is so big, I just want to be apart of it too ☺️
Truly I think it’s all hype. Like I don’t see the point in wasting so much time on so many books if I’m not like absolutely STOKED to read them. You know? Just to follow everyone else? They seem like they’re just not good books.
I couldn’t either but I loved her newest series in that universe, Dark Artifices and you don’t need to read her other series to understand it
@April thank you! Those are kind of what I’m wanting to read but I kind of thought I had to get through the others before them
@Harlye it wouldn’t hurt to have a Shadowhunters wiki available for certain things to clarify past events but not necessary.
Try it in audiobook format
Try the infernal devices! I liked them better ?
I’m with you. I read the first three in TMI and Clockwork Angel, and although I liked them, I feel like I’ll never catch up to her newest books. It was a goal of mine this year to read one of her books a month … I clearly failed lol.
@Sarah lol there’s always next year ?
Try audiobooks. That’s what I had to do. It was soo worth it because clockwork and dark artifices are so good
@Jennifer I really want to read the Dark Artifices but I feel like I would be so lost lol
Read the infernal devices they are better is a sequel to the mortal instruments so you wouldn’t get spoiled. After that maybe give city of bone another chance if you’d like too ?
I tried reading Clockwork Angel and every time it put me to sleep lol
I dont like it. Personally i feel like she copied the mortal engine series ?
@Ashlee how?
@Whitney valentine, the runes, some of the names like her series the infernal devices. I just feel like she took a lot of the originality from TME
@Ashlee I want to read the mortal engines as well!
@Harlye im telling you guys i swear Cassandra copied that book. Its one thing to be inspired but another to basically copy.. I refuse to even acknowledge her as an author.
I think they’re very dense books. Like so much happens and it’s so detailed for such a long time that it’s not an easy series to fall in to. Personally I love TMI and TID (Haven’t gotten around to TDA yet) but you have to be invested lol. However I feel that if you have a basic understanding of the shadowhunter universe then you could probably skip the first book. You could also start with TID. Or treat TMI like two trilogies, books 1-3 and 4-6, just makes it a little less daunting. But then again, If you can’t get in to them, that’s okay!
@Lily thank you for the advice!
Try the infernal devices series. Couldn’t get into city of bones but this on man it’s good ?
My favorite series from her is Dark Artifices. I would read Immortal Instruments before DarkArtifices because it has a lot of spoilers. However, I liked Infernal Devices and you don’t need to read any other series before this one. It helped reading this first, especially when reading the other series.
@Terri yeah I think I am going to start with the Infernal Devices! Thank you!
Thank you all for this thread! I tagged the first 2 one TMI and was on a roll, then I hit the third and idk I just could stay into it. Maybe I’ll try Infernal Devices!
I got 1/2 through the 4th mortal instruments book and I just can’t finish. I’m so bored with it. I want to like it so much but I just can’t. I love the idea of the series but I just can’t.
@Laura I feel you! I absolutely love the idea of it but I just got bored and couldn’t keep going. Maybe later eventually??♀️
I’m not part of it and I’m okay with that lol
I hated it, but I loved the Infernal Devices, give it a try maybe ?
@Manon I think i will ♥️♥️
I think I Will too ??? if you get my meaning
Im the same way:/
I love them all dearly and have read them all but everyone’s different maybe they’re just not for you it doesn’t matter I’ve read lots of books people love and not really loved them I think it comes down to personal taste ?
@Laura I think I’m going to start with the infernal Devices first and see where I am then ☺️
@Harlye yeah go for it, it’s a great series ?
The writing gets better with each book, Push through it!
The prequel series is better imo. Is recommend reading those especially since you don’t need to read the original series to know what’s going on.
Cassandra Clare really is a wonderful writer with a pleasant, intriguing prose. But, that doesn’t always mean that every YA Fantasy reader will enjoy her work. We all have different tastes, and if her writing flow doesn’t draw you in, chances are you won’t connect with her world. If you ever want to give it another try, I would recommend the prequel series. It’s shorter, better written, and has a better (less drawn-out) story.
