Finally reading Eleanor Oliphant. I’m about 1/3 of the way through and wondering if it gets better. Should I stick with it?

I finished. Should have given up though. I think either you like it or you don’t, but if you don’t like it now, I don’t think you will as you read further either.

Her story is that of an onion. You start at the surface, but will be peeling back the layers of the onion

So in the early parts of the book you may notice the perspective is skewed. I thought it got better and better the more of Eleanor

I loved it, and her. Really loved her voice and no nonsense attitude. I just finished it and I miss her already. And then there’s Raymond…❤️

The beginning had me like, “This is bull(bleep)” and “How is this supposed to be good?” and then it got a LITTLE more interesting and then it was “HMM!” and then about 3/4 or so I was like, “This is SO GOOD!” and I feel like the stuff that seemed boring was necessary for the character and conflict development.

I’m not quite 1/3. I know I’s read many people say to stick with it, but dang, if Eleanor isn’t frustrating. I’m sorry she is damaged and clearly Seen Some Shit. But she’s also terribly rude and making everyone around her awkward…..

(Sorry folks. I couldn’t resist ‘I’s’ from last week. ?)

I was hooked after the first chapter, so I don’t know that it gets “better,” but it’s a fabulous story. One of my favorite books I read this year.

Honestly, I think if I’d read it I wouldn’t love it but I’m listening to the audiobook and I’m so in love. I’ve laughed out loud and cried and I just feel gut wrenched at the point I’m at in the book. It gets very very good.

I was not someone who enjoyed it like many here. But, it does get better. I went from hating it to being ‘meh’. I never understood people who found it funny (I found it very sad). Somehow, I am still glad I read it.

I hated it at the beginning and even stopped it for a few weeks, but when I picked it back up and got so far I couldn’t put it down. I ended up falling in love with the two main characters and rooting for them more than I have characters in any other book I’ve read lately. One thing that put me off in the beginning was that she reminded me a lot of this girl who I once worked with and couldn’t stand, but once I got to know more about her backstory, I felt like I understood her more.
