It helps me! ?
Depends on what genre. I read Koontz mostly and some of his stuff throws me for such a hard loop, I get anxiety.
Absolutely. It’s redirecting your thoughts away from the trigger.
It does help. But sometimes its really difficult to get around the anxiety and into the book (concentration). Once done though, the anxiety doesn’t rule as hard.
I cannot read unless i am relaxed

Yes. I find that audiobooks are particularly comforting to me when in a bout of anxiety. I think it helps because I can focus on the narrator reading paired with the distraction of the story.
Oh yes , books and audio books have got me through some anxiety ridden times. I always say that reading is a holiday for my brain ?.
Anything Jane Austen.
Yes. ? If you pick up a book and read…it helps.

Yes! A very safe and effective escape for me
Yes it does help. Anxiety is a mindset issue. I have read so many books over the years.
Thoughts govern our feelings
Feelings dictate our experience
Yes, it sure does for me. ❤️
Yes of course. As long as, apart from being in another world, it helps us distract from our very negative thoughts.
DO books help…. Books often inadvertently teach good grammar?!
Very true, and reading widely is a must for any writer.Personally,I read to improve my writing.
Context as well.
Very much so. That and I went on my laptop and just searched the web.
Absolutely! It can be meditative for me.
May I recommend Norman Doidge M.D. books? Great information on managing our brains . ( Yes, brains are pliable ,” neuroplasticity”.)

Yes
Almost immediate total drop in stress /anxiety.. Brilliant!
It helps some, but for me, it’s hard to concentrate when you’re upset. Quilting helped me more.
Yes. Safe, controllable and claming.
ABSOLUTELY! I also have panic attacks on occasion and I turn to reading rather than meds.

It’s why I keep my books. I get alot of flack from my boyfriend about how I’ve read them or they are falling apart so why not get rid of them…nope. some of them are for certain moments when I’m super low.
It always has for me.
yes.
I was conducting a radio interview once with a school teacher. She said, most sincerely “without books to read I truly believe I would be in a Psych ward somewhere”. She was calm, elegant and to the world appeared to have everything going for her. I guess she did. She had found the secret power of books.
I have trouble concentrating when I get stressed out
Definitely an escape means!
Yes!
Oh yes. It’s one of daily needs
Absolutely
When I was a senior in high school I had an English teacher who was a recovering drug addict. He noticed I was always carrying a novel around, and one day he stopped me in a crowded hall and said – loudly – “You read books for the same reason I used to do drugs!” Heads turning, I wanted to sink through the floor. ?
He was right, though. About ten years later I was diagnosed with Anxiety/Panic Disorder.
Yes you can get lost in a book
Seems like I spend hours everyday reading. I lost my Mom 2 years ago and have felt so lost. Reading takes me on wonderful vacations that I will never be able to go on.
@Abby as!e here on the mom death. And is the reason I read more too
Whenever I’m out of sorts I read Dickens and it calms me
Always
It’s great therapy for me
….I can’t because I can’t concentrate in the story…. I have to calm down and the try to read… The impossibility to read it’s a sign when something is wrong….
Books are great for distracting me from my brain when it won’t stop thinking. Although, sometimes my anxiety is too much that I just can’t focus on a book. I know it’s especially bad when that happens.
Reading calms me down a lot
Books and jigsaws – failsafe mood lifters
I too love jig-saw puzzles….it relaxes me! However I only buy ones with 500 or 750 large pieces~ Plus they fit easier on my card table…<3
My table takes 1000 pieces and I was given some 1500 ones so a bigger table might be needed!!
For sure. I think books help uis in the worst times of our lives. they will make us happy, sad and teach us.
Absolutely!!! Both books and series help me keep anxiety at bay.
It does! It just depends on which book or books grabs your attention, if the characters and storytelling is related or whatever. And it also depends on who you choose as your favorite book authors too!
Reading got me through most of my childhood and many losses in my life.
Yes !!!
