If you are not opposed to Christian authors who talk about God in the books, Melanie Dickerson writes really good fairy tale retellings.

Mercedes Lackey has a series of fairy tell retellings, The Elemental Masters one I just finished was a Cinderrella retelling taken place during WWI the Cinderrella character is a Fire Master, and her ‘Prince’ acutally a Lord’s son, was a master of Air. The book is called Phoenix and Ashes. Lackey is really good at re vamping the fairy tales.

Serena Valentino has a series with the backstory on Disney villains. Starts with Maleficent, then the Beast, then Ursula. There are several more.

That reminded me there is an author named Liz Braswell who writes stories about what would have happened in an alternate ending, like what would happen if Sleeping Beauty had not woken up with the Prince’s kiss,or what if Ursula hadn’t been defeated.

I don’t remember the author’s name, but “Wicked” is the true story of the Wicked Witch from Oz; and Confessions of an Ugly Stepsister, by the same author, is a retelling of Cinderella. Another one I really enjoyed was Enchantment, by Orson Scott Card, a retelling of Sleeping Beauty that incorporates Russian fairy tales!
