Same for me, I prefer female authors and protagonists. It’s bit bit exclusionary, perhaps, but I have a lot of distrust towards male authors I’m not already familiar with. Male protagonists just don’t seem to engage me as much.
Yeah, and that’s best case scenario. I like historical fiction, and some of it’s okay with that dynamic but I came across one series that made me sick to read it. Just… so much rape. And what would be classed as pedophilia these days but was somehow okay to be glorified in the book by the author because “it was just like that back then”. Ugh. That was the last straw for me, but it had always been pretty bad with the genres I read.
I have no preference on an author’s gender, but I generally tend to prefer male protagonists. And I don’t like most contemporary authors in any case (unless we’re talking genre fiction). For mainstream, realist literature, I prefer reading authors/authoresses from before 1940 (with some exceptions of course). The current book I’m reading is by a female author and with a female protagonist.
Nope no preference
No preference
I tend to gravitate towards male authors, but I don’t really have a preference.
I’m the same way. I have trouble getting into a book with a male author and/or protagonist
Glad I am not the only one.
I have no preference on the author, but usually I like a female protagonist
No preference but I read a lot more male authors for some reason
no preference with authors, but I prefer male protagonists, is not a ‘must’ though

That’s the way I am. If the male author has a female protagonist, it seems the female is just not realistic.

Michael Connelly recently wrote a female protagonist beautifully. Many male writers have mastered this.
No preference for either for me
No preference on either, but I like finding more books by women of color recently because I’m hoping to expand the diversity of my reading!
No preference. The story is what matters.
I have no preferences although I do tend to read books by women. I don’t know why.
I prefer female authors but I’ll take either for the protagonists.
No prefrence on the author’s gender but i enjoy reading male protagonists
same with me
@May what genera do you read?
i like reading mystery novels, tom clancy, and andrew m. greeley
I most often prefer men for both.
I prefer both a female author and protagonist.
