Overdrive and CloudLibrary both work on my phone and my Kindle. However, syncing books between my two devices can be a bit wonky.

Yes! And you can switch devices and pick up where you left off. Overdrive, I hear, is being replaced by Libby. Both work right now but I think overdrive will be phased out.

Yes. I use OverDrive. We live between the two different branches of our library (Pioneer and Metropolitan … OK City Libraries) so I have library cards for both, so I have a bigger variety to choose from. I really need to check and see if they participate in the interlibrary loan thing and, if they do, how to do it with OverDrive.

I haven’t tried Libby (yet). I installed Hoopla, created an account (on website) however now I’m stuck on the site w/no way to log out, and the app doesn’t seem to want to let me log in/on. Oy.

Yes, I do! I have the kindle app on my phone and I borrow books via overdrive. I rather the kindle app to the overdrive app, but you can use either one. The ebook files are generally really small and don’t take up much room, but the apps themselves are pretty large.

How do you read Hoopla on a device other than your phone? It probably doesn’t work with a kindle or nook, huh?

0
Angel

It should. I can use mine on my phone and computer. They have an app. It should work on tablets also. If you have a web browser app on your tablet, and the phone app isn’t working, you can just log in to hoopla through the web browser.

1
Noreen

Won’t work on dedicated ereaders like glowlight nook but will work on nook or kindle tablets.

0
Noreen

So now I must confess that in addition to the phone, the tablet, 2 laptops, I also have a nook ereader. I do have a reading on a device problem, don’t I???

0
Chrissy

I only have the Nook & Kindle e-readers. Not tablets. Darn.

1
Lynda

@Chrissy You might want to try it to see … it depends on the formats offered by the library. If Kindle is an option, when you select that as your format, you should be redirected to Amazon which will then give you the options “Get from library” and your choice of device.

0
Chrissy

@Lynda that works for me with Overdrive, but I haven’t seen the option with Hoopla.

0
Lynda

@Chrissy Oh, gotcha. I missed that that was your specific question!

Donna

I use it all the time. It works on my iPhone, but I prefer reading on my Kindle.

I have an original Kindle. Has anyone been about to use Overdrive on theirs? I’m not having any luck. I do use it on my cell, tablet and laptop but I love the feel of my Kindle.

I had to upgrade my Kindle about a year ago to be compatible with the Overdrive upgrades.
I just got the $50 Fire, though. And it works great with Overdrive.

0
Sharon

Thanks. I knew it would work on the newer Kindles but I love my original! It’s a dinosaur but a beloved one….?

0
Heather

Yeah, I have the Fire, also. It works great on mine, too. My problem is, our library sucks!. In Missouri, you have to show proof that you live in the county where the library is, so where I grew up had a great library, but nobody I know lives in that county anymore

Heather

Yes. Overdrive! Yes, I can use my phone, also.

After you choose a book from your library, it is available for you to download whenever you want. So you can accept the loan, then download to your phone when you are somewhere that has faster internet service. Did this for a long time before I got high speed internet.

Eris

Yes! Overdrive is the best app ever!
