Silver Linings Playbook. The book was fine, but the movie (especially Bradley Cooper and Jennifer Lawrence in the roles) was so much better!

Big Trouble by Dave Barry. I thought the movie was much better than the book. Don’t get me wrong, the book was good; but the movie was fantastic. Couldn’t stop laughing.

The Queen is sitting a mile from me here in Key Largo. I read the book a long time ago. Can’t remember it, though.

0

@Albert
It was long and drawn out in the book, they didn’t really get together and ended up prisoners of war on opposite sides of the lake.

I liked the movie much better!

The Getaway with Steve McQueen.

Miss peregrine’s home for peculiar children. I liked the movie better than the book. I own the first book and i wasnt feeling it. I didnt get the movie in my head like how i read and imagine it in my head. It was a dizzy experience because of the characters being soooo different from the movie. And Emma and Olive switched characters. Its just making me so dizzy even explaining this. Hahha

This is my own opinion.

Tiffany

I liked them both for different reasons, but I was very shocked when they changed the characters attrivutes!

1
Jessica

It really pissed me off how much they changed the story; even the ending. But the movie was really good after getting past the changes.

3
Cestiana

@Tiffany ikr! I was confused as to how emma had the fire and olive was floating. Hahaa

1
Cestiana

@Jessica same. The book ending sounded better than the movie. Kinda. Haha

I just didn’t like some of the changes they made, it made it feel more cliche than the book did. Allie’s character didn’t feel the same to me in the movie

If you have the dvd when the director does the talk over he talks about how it almost wasn’t made the way it is. The money problems. Dealing with the ‘bosses’ about what scenes should or should not be done. Many insights to the film. Even the actors were surprised by the wsy it all ended up.

Only one I can think of–The Princess Bride. All that self-indulgent confusing crap–veering repeatedly into reality, only then you discover (through Google) it’s not even reality, and the long explanation of how it was condensed and edited from the original author’s version–only there is no early version and no original author. Boring and pointless. And, I’ll say it again, self-indulgent on the part of the author. Movie MUCH better!

“Blade Runner”, and then I’m normally a Philip K Dick fan. However, I feel “Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep” is not one of his stronger novels (apart from the title which is fab), while Scott did something marvelous out of it.

1

I agree. I read Do Andriods Dream of Electric Sheep in my lit/film comp class and while it’s got a good base, it was very lack luster. The movie was awesome though!

1

I would never say it was “better,” but I enjoyed the movie Les Miserables more than the book. Probably a lot of that had to do with having to read a translation. I’d say I liked the movie even more AFTER having read the book, because the movie left so much out. But it’s like comparing apples and oranges–especially since the movie was a musical. Oh, I guess I liked the book better than the other movie versions, but I still watch the musical once a year. I don’t plan on reading the book again!

2

see, I actually enjoyed the books..Not classic literature, but fun reads..the movies…I have to disagree with you on

1
Jazmin

My biggest problem with the books was the writing, not because of the style though. I felt like I was reading a middle schooler’s writing assignment and they hadn’t made any effort to edit at all. It made me feel like screaming in frustration.

1
Sam

Did you see a different version of Twilight? That movie was terrible. If you thought the writing was like a middle schoolers… then the movie was like elementary schoolers put it together.

Like the comment above not classic literature but they were entertaining and fun to read.

1
Jazmin

I didn’t like the movies at all and I disliked the books just as much.

1
Jazmin

Also, I read all sorts of things, not just classic literature and fully enjoy it, but I abhorr bad writing.

1
Sam

@Jazmin I can accept you didn’t like both much easier than saying he movie was better than the book lol

And it was just the first movie I hated… I thought it was very poorly done, even if I hadn’t read the books.

2
Jazmin

Lol I completely agree.

2
Amanda

Charlaine Harris’s “Dead After….” series. The tv series True Blood was better.. but that’s def a taste thing, also very 18 + rated. It’s easy entertainment but it’s the only time I’ve preferred the show to book.

2
Reply
Danielle

I liked the books more (loved Eric in both), but was unhappy with both endings, the books ending felt liked a forced end, and the shows ending could have been so much better (don’t want to say how in case people don’t want spoilers)

0
Amanda

Yes… I didn’t much like the end in either, also. Sometimes the creators have a great idea but just don’t know how to end it, I suppose??

Mean Girls was a book? How did I not know that?

1
Saoirse

@Sam Mean Girls is based on a book called Queen Bees and Wannabees by Rosalind Wiseman.

1
Saoirse

Also, Pitch Perfect

1
Sam

@Saoirse is it any good? I see that you think the movie is better but I am interested in the book…

1
Saoirse

Sam Johnson Its a nonfiction book aimed at parents, kinda a how to book on how to raise a teen daughter. It talks about the cliches, gossip, etc that are a part of high school girls.
If you are interested in that kind of thing, I would say give it a try but if you are looking for the entertainment element of Mean Girls, I’d say skip it.

2
Sam

@Saoirse thank you for that heads up. I thought it was a story kind of like the movie. Definitely not need for the how to!

1
Saoirse

@Sam No worries. It is more of a parenting guide/academic book than a story. Nothing like the movie. Which is why the movie is better as it conveys the same information but in a more accessible way.

Irene

For me, The Notebook

See I never read this book cuz I really liked the movie and was afraid of the book was better it would ruin the movie for me

2

I watched the movie first then the book. The book seemed too old fashioned, I didn’t like it. I don’t know if it would have made a difference if I’d done it the other way around.

1
Lukeand

Definitely! The movie was amazing! The book not so much and i expected the book to be double in size – it was tiny

What did you think the movie did better than the book? Is it because of the extensive traveling descriptions? ^_^

1
Chen

The visuals were stunning and also I went on a tour across a few locations and was moved by the amount of effort it took to shoot a 30 second scene (3 mths BTW). I feel personally attached to the films for that and a bunch of personal reasons- one of them being my dad used to watch them when i was a kid and they made him a much better person to be around. I’ll leave it there.
