Big Trouble by Dave Barry. I thought the movie was much better than the book. Don’t get me wrong, the book was good; but the movie was fantastic. Couldn’t stop laughing.
Miss peregrine’s home for peculiar children. I liked the movie better than the book. I own the first book and i wasnt feeling it. I didnt get the movie in my head like how i read and imagine it in my head. It was a dizzy experience because of the characters being soooo different from the movie. And Emma and Olive switched characters. Its just making me so dizzy even explaining this. Hahha
I just didn’t like some of the changes they made, it made it feel more cliche than the book did. Allie’s character didn’t feel the same to me in the movie
If you have the dvd when the director does the talk over he talks about how it almost wasn’t made the way it is. The money problems. Dealing with the ‘bosses’ about what scenes should or should not be done. Many insights to the film. Even the actors were surprised by the wsy it all ended up.
I personally liked the movie version of Gone Girl more than the book. I felt the book was just tooooooo long, and the movie took a lot of it out (as always). In this case, it worked.
I just read Marathon Man never saw movie but found out he wrote Princess Bride never read ,movie was great. He also wrote screenplay for Butch Cassidy and Sundance Kid which was never a book.
Only one I can think of–The Princess Bride. All that self-indulgent confusing crap–veering repeatedly into reality, only then you discover (through Google) it’s not even reality, and the long explanation of how it was condensed and edited from the original author’s version–only there is no early version and no original author. Boring and pointless. And, I’ll say it again, self-indulgent on the part of the author. Movie MUCH better!
“Blade Runner”, and then I’m normally a Philip K Dick fan. However, I feel “Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep” is not one of his stronger novels (apart from the title which is fab), while Scott did something marvelous out of it.
I agree. I read Do Andriods Dream of Electric Sheep in my lit/film comp class and while it’s got a good base, it was very lack luster. The movie was awesome though!
I would never say it was “better,” but I enjoyed the movie Les Miserables more than the book. Probably a lot of that had to do with having to read a translation. I’d say I liked the movie even more AFTER having read the book, because the movie left so much out. But it’s like comparing apples and oranges–especially since the movie was a musical. Oh, I guess I liked the book better than the other movie versions, but I still watch the musical once a year. I don’t plan on reading the book again!
I don’t like the books at all, believe me I have tried reading them but I just feel that her writing style is VERY childish and yes I can see why but I cant get through them. I’m just sitting there almost pulling my hair off my head.
Yep, I read 5-7 before the films were made but I watched the first film before reading the book and I was hooked… for me, the bigger the books got the better they got compared to the movies
My biggest problem with the books was the writing, not because of the style though. I felt like I was reading a middle schooler’s writing assignment and they hadn’t made any effort to edit at all. It made me feel like screaming in frustration.
Did you see a different version of Twilight? That movie was terrible. If you thought the writing was like a middle schoolers… then the movie was like elementary schoolers put it together.
Like the comment above not classic literature but they were entertaining and fun to read.
Charlaine Harris’s “Dead After….” series. The tv series True Blood was better.. but that’s def a taste thing, also very 18 + rated. It’s easy entertainment but it’s the only time I’ve preferred the show to book.
I liked the books more (loved Eric in both), but was unhappy with both endings, the books ending felt liked a forced end, and the shows ending could have been so much better (don’t want to say how in case people don’t want spoilers)
Sam Johnson Its a nonfiction book aimed at parents, kinda a how to book on how to raise a teen daughter. It talks about the cliches, gossip, etc that are a part of high school girls. If you are interested in that kind of thing, I would say give it a try but if you are looking for the entertainment element of Mean Girls, I’d say skip it.
@Sam No worries. It is more of a parenting guide/academic book than a story. Nothing like the movie. Which is why the movie is better as it conveys the same information but in a more accessible way.
I watched the movie first then the book. The book seemed too old fashioned, I didn’t like it. I don’t know if it would have made a difference if I’d done it the other way around.
I preferred the film of the ‘Green mile’ to the book. This surprised me as I normally love Stephen King novels but I struggled with this one but loved the film.
There’s few movies I directly prefer to the book, but The Power of One was one of them. Just did not get into this book. Boring dragged on and Peekay was obsessed with his chicken.
To echo @Robert, “The Princess Bride.” Monumentally great comedy/fantasy film, so-so book. The movie “The Accidental Tourist” also far exceeded the book it was based on.
The visuals were stunning and also I went on a tour across a few locations and was moved by the amount of effort it took to shoot a 30 second scene (3 mths BTW). I feel personally attached to the films for that and a bunch of personal reasons- one of them being my dad used to watch them when i was a kid and they made him a much better person to be around. I’ll leave it there.
Silver Linings Playbook. The book was fine, but the movie (especially Bradley Cooper and Jennifer Lawrence in the roles) was so much better!
I agree!
Big Trouble by Dave Barry. I thought the movie was much better than the book. Don’t get me wrong, the book was good; but the movie was fantastic. Couldn’t stop laughing.
never heard about it .. is it comedy ?
Yes it is. Tim Allen is in the movie.
okay .. i’ll check it 🙂
African Queen
The Queen is sitting a mile from me here in Key Largo. I read the book a long time ago. Can’t remember it, though.
@Albert
It was long and drawn out in the book, they didn’t really get together and ended up prisoners of war on opposite sides of the lake.
I liked the movie much better!
The Getaway with Steve McQueen.
Hahha
This is my own opinion.
I liked them both for different reasons, but I was very shocked when they changed the characters attrivutes!
It really pissed me off how much they changed the story; even the ending. But the movie was really good after getting past the changes.
@Tiffany ikr! I was confused as to how emma had the fire and olive was floating. Hahaa
@Jessica same. The book ending sounded better than the movie. Kinda. Haha
Anything by Stephen King. I like his stories but not his writing style.
Me too ?
I liked the A Walk to Remember movie better than the book (Nicholas Sparks)
Yeah .. agree
And The Notebook.
I hated the Notebook movie actually
@Lori why ?
I just didn’t like some of the changes they made, it made it feel more cliche than the book did. Allie’s character didn’t feel the same to me in the movie
TV series “the handmaid’s tale”
Me too. I LOVE the story but I could not get into the book at all.
Though none go with me
The Godfather
may b it’s just me but I felt this way for ‘to kill a mockingbird’…..
The Godfather! But it wouldn’t exist without the awesome book?
If you have the dvd when the director does the talk over he talks about how it almost wasn’t made the way it is. The money problems. Dealing with the ‘bosses’ about what scenes should or should not be done. Many insights to the film. Even the actors were surprised by the wsy it all ended up.
I personally enjoy the Lord of the rings movies bettee….still love the books but they can be a bit slow
I have tried to read LOTR so many times and never “got it” but really enjoyed the films.
A Time To Kill by John Grisham liked the book but loved the movie.
The 100 tv show is better than the books but the books are good too
World war Z… Couldn’t get into the book, love the movie
The handmaid’s tale TV series.
Bram Stoker’s Dracula
@Rute Gary Oldman nailed his rule in that movie .. i like the book as well 🙂
Gary Oldman was amazing! I also liked the book but the movie is one of my favourites.
Me too *-*
i’m big fan of Gary Oldman by the way :v
No
Okay
I personally liked the movie version of Gone Girl more than the book. I felt the book was just tooooooo long, and the movie took a lot of it out (as always). In this case, it worked.
No
Yea
Princess Bride
I just read Marathon Man never saw movie but found out he wrote Princess Bride never read ,movie was great. He also wrote screenplay for Butch Cassidy and Sundance Kid which was never a book.
This was my instant answer when I saw the question.
I actually really like the book and the movie so I think for me it’s a tie.
Agree
The reasons why I didn’t like the book are in my answer further down.
Forrest Gump
Only one I can think of–The Princess Bride. All that self-indulgent confusing crap–veering repeatedly into reality, only then you discover (through Google) it’s not even reality, and the long explanation of how it was condensed and edited from the original author’s version–only there is no early version and no original author. Boring and pointless. And, I’ll say it again, self-indulgent on the part of the author. Movie MUCH better!
Misery
Stand by me
“Blade Runner”, and then I’m normally a Philip K Dick fan.
Not really
okay 🙂
I would never say it was “better,” but I enjoyed the movie Les Miserables more than the book. Probably a lot of that had to do with having to read a translation. I’d say I liked the movie even more AFTER having read the book, because the movie left so much out. But it’s like comparing apples and oranges–especially since the movie was a musical. Oh, I guess I liked the book better than the other movie versions, but I still watch the musical once a year. I don’t plan on reading the book again!
The Notebook
Yep!
yeah .. the movie is awesome
Harry Potter
Omg noooo
I don’t like the books at all, believe me I have tried reading them but I just feel that her writing style is VERY childish and yes I can see why but I cant get through them. I’m just sitting there almost pulling my hair off my head.
@Sandra even though your opinion surprises me but i respect it
@Toni ?
@Jocelyn nope.
They turn Harry into a dumb twat in the films x
And Ginny x
Ginny is awesome in the books
in the movies … -,- Nah !
they did a really bad work
@Katia Thank you, I really appreciate it
Chocolat, My Sister’s Keeper. The latter mostly because of the ending
YES the ending drove me up the wall in the movie, and how much they left out and changed
Stardust.
Inkheart and Narnia films
I preferred the Bridget Jones films more than the books
I preferred the first Harry Potter film to the book.
@Hayley really ?!! the movies are nothing afront the books..
Have u read the books ?
Yep, I read 5-7 before the films were made but I watched the first film before reading the book and I was hooked… for me, the bigger the books got the better they got compared to the movies
I generally avoid the movies of books I’ve read. But there was one I liked the movie more, I just can’t seem to remember what it was right now.
Why u avoid them @Courtney ?
Twilight – and it still sucked.
??SUCKED!! ??
Sorry, the pun amused me lol
Lol
??????
see, I actually enjoyed the books..Not classic literature, but fun reads..the movies…I have to disagree with you on
My biggest problem with the books was the writing, not because of the style though.
I didn’t like the movies at all and I disliked the books just as much.
Also, I read all sorts of things, not just classic literature and fully enjoy it, but I abhorr bad writing.
@Jazmin I can accept you didn’t like both much easier than saying he movie was better than the book lol
And it was just the first movie I hated… I thought it was very poorly done, even if I hadn’t read the books.
Lol I completely agree.
Yes… I didn’t much like the end in either, also. Sometimes the creators have a great idea but just don’t know how to end it, I suppose??
The Color Purple.
Silence of the Lambs
The Godfather Trilogy
The Devil Wears Prada
Mean Girls
Brokeback Mountain (technically a short story but still…)
Mean Girls was a book? How did I not know that?
@Sam Mean Girls is based on a book called Queen Bees and Wannabees by Rosalind Wiseman.
Also, Pitch Perfect
@Saoirse is it any good? I see that you think the movie is better but I am interested in the book…
@Saoirse thank you for that heads up. I thought it was a story kind of like the movie. Definitely not need for the how to!
@Sam No worries. It is more of a parenting guide/academic book than a story. Nothing like the movie. Which is why the movie is better as it conveys the same information but in a more accessible way.
For me, The Notebook
See I never read this book cuz I really liked the movie and was afraid of the book was better it would ruin the movie for me
I watched the movie first then the book. The book seemed too old fashioned, I didn’t like it. I don’t know if it would have made a difference if I’d done it the other way around.
Definitely! The movie was amazing! The book not so much and i expected the book to be double in size – it was tiny
I preferred the film of the ‘Green mile’ to the book. This surprised me as I normally love Stephen King novels but I struggled with this one but loved the film.
About a Boy
Jocelyn Reagan Smash omg .. there is a book for “about a boy” !
Who’s the writer please ?
Nick hornby
Forrest Gump

Stand By Me
Die Hard
First Blood
Let Me In

Beaches
Love that movie.
A walk to remember
The Curious Case of Benjamin Button (short story)
Divergent movies
The fault in our stars
Love Rosie
A walk to remember
A walk to remember. I agree. The movie was too good. Mandy Moore did an awesome translation of the character
Nope.
Inkheart. The movie bested the book in my opinion
There’s few movies I directly prefer to the book, but The Power of One was one of them. Just did not get into this book. Boring dragged on and Peekay was obsessed with his chicken.
I love the book, but the movie was absolutely fantastic!
I got it!!! It just came to me … Like a light bulb going off above my head!!! Howl’s Moving Castle ????
A few. The Man Who Fell to Earth. A Clockwork Orange.
The Fault In Our Stars!?
The painted veil
Misery, Princess Bride,
To echo @Robert, “The Princess Bride.” Monumentally great comedy/fantasy film, so-so book. The movie “The Accidental Tourist” also far exceeded the book it was based on.
Nerve, Pride, Prejudice and Zombies and Vampire Diaries, series
i believe there are two movies of “Pride and Prejudice”
The hobbit
Silver Linings Playbook, Me Before You
i find it difficult to compare betweent the “Me before You” book and movie
they both are great .. so .. they are equal in my opinion
The Hobbit
One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest
No movie is better than a book, the movie is limited by it’s time and the actors performance but the novel is limited by your imagination
Not if the book is badly written but with a good plot.
I think you are right
If in doubt then read African Queen.
Ok
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_African_Queen_(novel)
Thanks alot
I will read it and tell you my opinion
The movie outshines the book.
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_African_Queen_(film)
Would love to hear what you think of it! I’ve yet to find anyone who has read the book.
Ella enchanted
The Hunter.
Forrest Gump is better as a movie than as a book.
How to train your dragon
The Devil Wears Prada
The 5th wave
Harry potter books
What’s up with the books ?
lord of the rings. not the hobbit though, we don’t talk about that cgi horror
What did you think the movie did better than the book? Is it because of the extensive traveling descriptions? ^_^
Thanks. Have a great day!

I agree, the book and the movie were very different in many ways. Both were good though. (Shining)
The notebook
Jaws
