Why not? When you read a book to your kid and they listen, are they still getting in the story someone wrote even though they didnt read the words themselves?
I really hate to admit this but I have never listened to one to completion. They put me to sleep): I have tried so many times. I reckon it’s because I was read bedtime stories. I would count it as competed.
Yes just because you’re listening and not reading the words with your eyes doesn’t mean you’re not reading a book. I prefer audio books because I can listen and clean my house, listen and work out etc
I’m so pleased most of you are saying yes! I do add mine but always feel guilty as it seems to be such a controversial point. But I process them in exactly the same way as a book and I agree it’s your reading challenge and nobody else’s x
@Ewa i dont listen to audiobooks in the first place but even if i did i wouldnt mark them as read because it would be false, “listened”eventually, but there is no such option
@Amanda it is quite ok. But since i dont listen to audiobooks my answer still stands. I dont like the concept of someone reading and interpreting it for me
@Dario I understand I used to not like them either but this year I’ve started getting into them as it allows me to take in books while I do other things.
Yes, Over a few meetings, our home group just listened and watched a DVD with the exact words of the Book of Luke and we definitely say we have read Luke! An awesome way to read it!
No I don’t. It’s my own weird thing but I don’t feel any type of way about others that choose to. Everyone is reading for themselves so how they keep track is an individual decision and it doesn’t matter as long as the books bring them joy. I don’t typically listen to audiobooks unless it’s with my daughter or i my class with my students anyway
It seems every time this issue comes up, the only people who say no are the people who don’t get or like audiobooks in the first place. I used to be like that… never thought it would be the same. But then I had kids and a multi hour commute and a desk job in IT… they save me every day. And it really isn’t any different. The story is digested and processed exactly the same. So, yeah, I count my audiobooks as well as my physical books on my nightstand. Does anyone argue whether books read on a Kindle should count?
Love audio books! Always have them in my car. I commute to work about 40 min everyday and listen to them with pleasure. That way I can read, or listen to at least two books a month. Simply love them! Especially Jodi Picult’s audio books.

Of course. You’re hearing exactly what you would’ve read, your brain is processing the same story.
I don’t listen to audiobooks but it’s your personal goal, include them if you want to?

On goodreads they have the option to select the audiobook as the version you read.

Sure do, they’re a type of book
I would ( if I used audio books) they ‘re still being read to u xx
I would say you would need two lists. A read list and a audio list. I’m not a fan of audio, but I’m not a auditory learner either. I’m a reader.

? Totally agree!
I just started using the audio book wile reading along at 2x speed makes me not feel as bad. B4 I would just use it to help me get through chapters
Feel bad…..about what?
@Marissa about counting a book towards my yearly count
@Pj I understand.
Yes. No one cares but me. I do it for myself.
Yes, of course.
Sure, why not.
I don’t listen to audiobooks, but I would say yes.
