What was wrong about the book?

Jeana

I guess I just felt that she was more whiney and didn’t connect with the character. I started to see her reasons for what she did but not enough to commit suicide. Not that anything ever really is. I still don’t think in the show she should have either but it just connected better for me. Plus it’s a little different. More intense.

I watched the movie too, I haven’t read the book. I ordered it .

I read the book a long time ago. In the book Clay listens to the tapes all in one night. I liked the way the show broke it up (even though I hated that it took him forever to listen to them).

I felt the same way but then I tried to imagine myself in his position and how involved he was in the whole thing and I would have done the same. But I still wanted him to just get it over with!

What did you like about it?

Tracy

I liked how it made me think while reading it and after. I made me think about how this type of thinking goes on every day, and if a couple people would have reached out, maybe she wouldn’t have had to even get to the point of making the tapes. It might just be me, but I love reading books like this because it just makes me think a lot of what ifs. Does that make sense?

The book was waaay better! I read it many years ago when it first published.

The show ruined it. As usual.

I found the book to be worth the read. I don’t think it was better per se, just very different. I feel like they changed how the main guy (I forget his name) reacts to listening to the tapes in the show. I do think the book was great and I didn’t find issue with the show, either.

I can’t say for sure if the book is better or worse than the show because I haven’t watched the show for personal reasons, but I will say that the book is one of my favorites and has had an immense impact on me. I read back in like 2010 or 2011 and I’ll still reread it to this day. It really opened my eyes and my mind to the world around me and how my actions can have a significant impact on others around me. I highly recommend reading it

Read the book. It was amazing. There are enough differences that reading the book won’t be just a rehash of the show.

I read the book long before I ever watched the show, the show is a lot different and I think it pulls your heart strings a little bit more than the book ever did but I think it might have been because of where I was during the two times. I always say that you should read the book, especially if you liked the movie!

The book and show are way different so it’s honestly up to you but I enjoyed the book mostly because I have depression and have been dealing with it for nine years so I kind of understood her pain to an extent

To be perfectly honest, I don’t know how I feel about the book. It’s not perfect, mind you. There are obvious plotholes, the character building is flawed but the story is very emotional and sad which is why it probably strikes a chord within people. I have seen reviews praising it and saying that the book helped them, also I have seen people criticising it since they think it’s glorifying suicide. But I guess if u liked the series then u can give a shot at reading the book. The last few chapters really made me sad. 🙁 🙁

I read the book long before the show and I loved it but then I watched the show and I kinda felt like the show ruined the book a little for me and whilst a part of me still loves the book I think after watching the show I think those that watched the show and haven’t read the book shouldn’t read the book unless it’s a massive desire or wait 5 years or something cause the two are really different and I honestly think they should be seperated. But I don’t know that’s just my opinion

In my opinion yes, it open the door to a discussion about two issues bullying and suicide.

I’m thinking we might work it into our homeschooling curriculum.
