Reading Rivers of London on Audible is a real kick. There are some good narrators, some not so good, and some whose work build on the authors writing to make something better. Holdbrook-Smith’s narration takes good stories over the top!

John Sandford’s novels – both the Prey and Virgil Flowers series. I often burst out laughing, even though they’re not deliberately ‘comic’ novels. Plus, Carl Hiaasen and Laurence Shames. And Tim Dorsey. These last three are all Florida writers … don’t know what it is about Florida!

Too many to list, but great humourous crime writers include Ruth Dudley Edwards, Christopher Fowler, Mike Ripley, and some of Peter Lovesey’s works (the Bertie novels, in which Prince Albert investigates). More recently there are the Mick Herron novels. And that’s only British
writers!

Brookmyre’s earlier stuff is superb if you’re looking for funny. His later books are still excellent but he doesn’t really go for funny in them.

@Jason that reflects the books really. The last few are really good but there has been a very deliberate shift in tone.
