I read the books just this year and then watched the films after and the films are awful!! They miss out SO much detail! I’m sure if you haven’t read the books they are good but the books have so much depth they’re incredible

You could take out the ‘Harry Potter’ bit and still say ‘Uh – yeah…’

I love the films but there is no comparison, so much more depth, detail and back story in the books.
They are some of the very few books that will re-read

They are both great in their own ways. My 6 year old has just finished the third book and was able to recognise the differences between the book and the movie which is good

So much better. I don’t really get why people who’ve only seen the films like them so much. The books are richer in detail, much more colourful and a lot, lot funnier.

Yes. You don’t get into anyone’s mindset by watching a film. It leaves out so much detail and Harry’s inner torment and emotions. If that’s something you’re not bothered about then watch the films but for me they’ll never beat the books.

In the case of book 5 I’d actually say the film was better. Book 5 is necessary but there’s so much setting up of plot, and the film dispensed with that and streamlined it. But on the whole the books are way better!

Books got better and better, but for me the earlier films with the cast as young children had a magic lost when they grew up.
