I love his books because his writings are very raw and deep. This book hits home and it never fails to make me sentimenal about things. This is highly recommended.

If I have the one you mean right, The Elephant Vanishes.
It’s his short stories collection. A nice way into the author’s work. Small bites.

I have this on my shelf. Is it much better than the other books that has short stories? which is the best short story you got hooked on to?

I read it more than 15 years ago, before he was as well known in the US.
It seemed I enjoyed them all, found him to have quite a unique voice. And from there I moved on to The Wind-up Bird Chronicles.

Wow. I also have the wind-up chronicle. Read a few pages. and got me have an interest in it. I just don’t have much time to have my whole attention becausw of school works, but I want to find a me-time with this book.

I started with Kafka on the Shore, and that one hooked me and made me want to read all of his books I could get my hands on, so check that out. Also, don’t miss The Wind Up Bird Chronicle. I love them all, but those two are my favorites. Everyone loves Norwegian Wood, but I thought it was a bit overrated–not signature Murakami bizarre like the others, which was disappointing.

My first book of Murakami is Norwegian Wood. Second is Kafka on the Shore. Same feels when I shifted to Kafka on the Shore. Both are good books but different writing style. Any thoughts on Hard-boiled Wonderland and the end of the world? I have one but haven’t had the interest to read. I also have wind-up chronicle and read few chapters in it.

@Pat–I really liked Hard-Boiled Wonderland, even though it is science fiction, which is not my thing. The humor and surreal beauty are the things that one has going for it.

I have also read others, most of them in fact, so if you have questions about any particular one, I might be able to answer them.

Try T.C. Boyles, please. His writing is riveting. Anything he writes is good.

I read Colorless Tsukuru Tasaki by Murakami. I rarely rate a book 5 Stars. This was a 5 star read. I recommend it highly.

1Q84 or Kafka on the Shore – those are my two favorites of his.
