In a way, it is seemingly random stories. The one about the old lady, the boy, Ivanhoe, and the camelias, makes me weep every time. *sniff* But, I urge you to complete the whole book, it is wonderful.
I work in a library and I have had to research why lots if books have been banned. My favorite was The Diary of Anne Frank getting banned because it was deemed too depressing …
@Danielle Banned for the use of a word we no longer consider appropriate. It is a shame, too, when I think of all the kids who would have loved this book but it was banned from their school for the use of a word which was common at the time of publication.
I feel like I’ve completely missed a chapter of my life somewhere. I’ve only just recently heard of this book and the second book and I’ve never heard of the movie. I mean you all could be pulling my leg right now
I read it last year, and loved everything about it. The characters stick with you after the read. I was also able to see the classic movie and watch a local theater production at the same time.
I like to re read it at least every other year. The book, of course, is better than the movie, but I have to say, the movie was well done, also worth watching multiple times!
I taught it in 8th and 9th grade English for many years. The movie is one of the few that I would show in class after reading the book because it is so true to the book. Gregory Peck and Robert Duvall are great in it.
Not now but have several times….more than worth it!
Is it just a bunch of random stories
No, it is a classic southern novel. Excellent book!
so far what I’m getting out of it is short little stories of here and there in their lives.
Hang in there…it’s worth it.
@Sharon k thanks
Then….watch the movie. Gregory Peck at his best!
It’s mostly character development, so you understand why they do what they do later on.
@Sharon I didn’t know there was a movie
@Patty oh ok that makes sense now
@Danielle Just one of the best! But read the book first, please.
One of my most favorite books!

A long time ago a great great book!!!
Re read ( by audio) this summer for the first time in 25 + years. Got sooo much more out of it this time. 5 stars ✨ no doubt
Yes, I have read it many times, a GREAT book!
Yes, many years ago, for high school.
Have read it many, many times.
I’ve read it many times–probably my favorite book ever. It’s required reading in many schools. The movie is excellent, too.
I read it in highschool and it was a great book! Too bad a lot of people are still trying to get it banned.
Banned for what
@Danielle Tom Robinson is accused of rape (at least that’s the reason usually cited).
There were also “bad words” and “derogatory” terms that might traumatize children…?
Oh haven’t gotten that far

Eons ago; great book!!

Not at the moment but I do teach the book! Timeless classic in my opinion.
Read it years ago when I was 12! Loved it. It was the book that turned me on to reading.
One of my all time favorites shared/taught it numerous times, too.

Just re-read it this past year. More important to me now than ever before.

Obviously me lol

Re-read about a year ago. Better than I remembered.
My favorite book.

Read it years ago. Great story.
I re-read it every few years or so. I even have a tattoo inspired by it. One of my favorites.
I feel like I’ve completely missed a chapter of my life somewhere. I’ve only just recently heard of this book and the second book and I’ve never heard of the movie. I mean you all could be pulling my leg right now
Nobody is pulling your leg. *Everyone* should read this book. And the movie is pretty darn good, too.
Not since jr high
Finally read it this summer.
Over and over again.
I taught this book for years and reread it every time! It is perfect in every way.
I read it many years ago but it is one of those books that stay alive in your mind forever. The film is excellent also.
I read it last year, and loved everything about it. The characters stick with you after the read. I was also able to see the classic movie and watch a local theater production at the same time.
wonderful book. Read it in school, and regularly every few years.
Going to listen on its audiobook version 🙂 will start next day preferably.
I had to read it for school about 50 years ago!
Lots of times. It’s a great book
Heaps 🙂
I like to re read it at least every other year. The book, of course, is better than the movie, but I have to say, the movie was well done, also worth watching multiple times!
My favorite book, read it about once a year…. enjoy! ?
One of my favorite books!
I did and my son just finished it today.
Beautiful book.
read some years ago and it was such an emotional reading even if I have watched the movie first
I taught it in 8th and 9th grade English for many years. The movie is one of the few that I would show in class after reading the book because it is so true to the book. Gregory Peck and Robert Duvall are great in it.
yes, years ago in HS then more recently with my women’s book group.
This deserves a re read
I reread it about a year or two ago. Still good.
So I’m now listening to go set a watchmen performed by Reese Witherspoon. I didn’t know she did audios!!!
