I struggled through the first few chapters because the narrator is death, so it was strange, but once I was in, I fell in love with it. I’ve read it twice.

That is one of the things I loved..that Death narrates. It made it refreshingly different and the way he voiced Death as a character was intriguing to me.

Shannan

same here – once you get into the voice of the narrator, it’s amazing!!! push through the beginning…

@Donna, I also loved it once I got into it. This book is so beautiful.

Just could not get on with this one. Tried three times to read it but gave up near the end the third time! Just not for me. Loved the film though. ?

I couldn’t get into it the first time I tried. So it’s sitting on my shelf waiting for its next try.

@Germaine Sometimes you have to be in the right mood for a certain book. I think I gave it a good go though, other books I could be enjoying. I saw the film so I feel no need to go back to it. ☺

That’s true. It’s happened with other books that I have liked them on the second or third try.

The only thing I actually liked about it was the narrator being death. I didn’t care for the story–which was absolutely baffling because usually I am a sucker for WW2 stuff ESPECIALLY when it’s set in Germany. I will usually sob my eyes out but not with this book. ??

It has a great meaning with a Narrator that you wouldn’t think of to have in a story. Such a good read.
