Please keep going . I love that book . I almost gave up when the little girl grew up , it’s almost like that movie about the girl that lives in Hyatt New York , . It’s worth it . Someone asked what is the point of the story ?. There is no point , it’s gentle and kind and honours the English language . It is about making the most of your circumstances . And if anyone reads the book and doesn’t realise the point , it’s still a lovely story .
It’s about the most charming gentleman caked Count Rostov who has been put under hotel arrest. It’s about the relationships he makes at the hotel and how he embraces his ‘fall from grace’ will class and dignity. Beautifully written but I am finding it slow at the moment.
Nothing wrong with you… YOU HAVE A MIND OF YOUR OWN! not everyone SHOULD have the same opinion!! GOOD FOR YOU!! (I haven’t started reading it… Haven’t even gotten from the library yet… I’ll keep you posted)
That happens to me often. Check out populars and find they’re just not my cup of tea. Recently Handmaid’s Tale, The Late Show and The 13th Tale. Maybe it’s just the mood I’m in at the time. Can’t figure it out. Presently into LeCarre’s A League of Spies and enjoying immensely. Weird huh?
I loved it! The language is so rich, the characters well-developed, and the plot full of surprises. All of this is layered on a very depressing plot premise.
Keep going! It picks up again!!
Oh gosh. Thanks. I love it but it’s not going anywhere at the moment. Off I go then!
It’s so worth it!!

Thank you! Kettle on, glasses at the ready – nice break from Christmas decorating for an hour or so, in that case!
Is it a romance??
No. Not at all.
Thx!

Called not caked!!!
I have stalled and took a break on this one as well. Glad to hear it’s worth picking back up again!
Keep reading. It will make your heart soar.
I tried but couldn’t get into it. I read all the glowing reviews and wonder what is wrong with me!

I loved every page, every paragraph. ❤️
It is a wonderful read.
I am reading it now, just past part 2.
I just started reading it. I was a bit perplexed in the beginning, but now I’m into it.
A great book that you’ll enjoy till the end…I wished it didn’t end
Thank you all
The first few chapters are boring as the author sets the stage for the action to follow. It was one of my favorite reads. I loved it. Keep going
My favorite book of the year but I listened. Maybe that would be better. Narrator is wonderful.
I loved it, don’t laugh, it reminded me of a reverse The Little Princess.
Remember, Shirley Temple, the little rich girl that had to go live in the attic?
Oh yes – it’s that kid that lived in New York Hyatt , it became a cartoon
I loved it! The language is so rich, the characters well-developed, and the plot full of surprises. All of this is layered on a very depressing plot premise.
Keep going its awesome
I think I know what you’e experiencing–I found this book to drag in the middle. I really enjoyed the ending.
I had the same experience.
It would make a great movie.
It’s a slow read but well worth it.
Search this group, it has been discussed several times. Look on author’s website to widen your perspective into story
Keep going. Its worth it!!!
I felt the exact same way. I put it aside but will (hopefully) go back to it in a few weeks and try again.
I didn’t like it, but a lot of people did.
I felt the same way, I read this over a course of a month, I started to like the thought that it was a easy laid back read, a savory story.
Loved it! Read it and listened to it, both were wonderful. Stick with it, it just gets better.
Made it through about 1/3 and then had no interest.
I loved it ?
There was a middle section that I struggled to get through but by the end I was all smiles and tears and more smiles and More Tears..
It was a struggle to start but about 1/2 way through it pics up.
Loved it.
It is one of the best books I’ve read in a long time.
I agree it was masterfully written
Just started
Is on my TBR pile. Have heard very good reviews
