Anyone know if theres something similar to libby/overdrive for us in the UK? Would really save my bank balance ?

Also, i’ll be visiting Berlin soon and I have a huge love for history, any recommendations on books during WW2? Would prefer non-fiction to get a real insight into it but ill take fiction recommendations too!

@Kimberley you may be able to have a look online. I know in the Essex library website, when searching for ebooks, it takes you to a page for borrowbox ☺️

@Ssteph ill have an ask in mine, but its a tiny library that operates like 1 day a week so not sure how itll go ? x

@Kimberley oh dear! That’s such a shame. Maybe it’s best to join another library for this sole purpose. Our customers don’t have to be from our local district, so log as we have valid proof of their current address. You maybe be able to join another district library, one that is run by a Trust and not a Council x

In the Garden of the Beast by Erik Larsen. Non-fiction that reads like fiction!

Non fiction options:
Night by Elie Wiesel
In the Garden of Beasts by Erik Larson
Blitzed: Drugs in Nazi Germany by Norman Ohler
Hitler’s Furies: German Women in the Nazi Killing Fields by Wendy Lower

If you can handle the heavy content, I’d recommend reading Death Dealer: The Memoirs of the SS Kommandant at Auschwitz. It is written by Rudolf Höss and he did them while awaiting execution after the war. They are the only detailed accounts written by an SS Officer about the camps.

Every Man Dies Alone by Hans Fallada
Beneath a Scarlet Sky by Mark Sullivan.
Both of these are fictional books but are based on true stories of real people during the war.

A few of my faves that are entirely fictional:
The Nightingale by Kristin Hannah
The Street Sweeper by Eliot Perlman
Jackdaws by Ken Follett
Salt to the Sea by Ruta Sepetys
