Curtis Sittenfeld has one called Sisterland (I think). Wonderful book, although no history). You probably already know about The Other Boleyn girl, I’m assuming.

The Secret Life of Bees by Sue Monk Kidd also. The Distance Between Us by Maggie O’Farrell (although not historical), After You’d Gone and Instructions For A Heatwave by Maggie O’Farrell are also excellent though are more about family relationships and contemporary and 1970’s based respectively. Philippa Gregory also wrote Three Sisters Three Queens. Little Women by Louisa May Allcott is maybe too obvious, The Miniaturist by Jessie Burton features a sister-in-law relationship.

Before We Were Yours by Lisa Wingate (Note: This book might be a tough read becasue it deals with children kidnapped and sold to wealthy families through orphanages but it’s totally worth the read. I’m not a historical fiction fan and I usually stay away from heavy topics but I really enjoyed it.)

I just wrote a book review column last month on sister relationships and the three I recommended were 1) Before We Were Yours by Lisa Wingate- powerful historical fiction 2) Sisterland by Curtis Sittenfeld and 3) Drowning Ruth- an interesting mystery and relationship twist
